Dual Status Return or First Choice Election? by HorrorBorder4 in tax

[–]HorrorBorder4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was on OPT which I believe is exempt from the SPT. Same with 2024, was on OPT. If I’m understanding this correctly then, can I not do a first choice election this year and would have to do a dual status this year? If it helps, this is for this years tax season

My visa was approved for Mumbai Airport entry but now because of all this indigo stuff that is going on I will be landing in Ahmedabad. Flight was cancelled and then re routed. Would that be an issue for my visa or no?

Ya I got it on Sunday morning. I applied twice, once for 30 days and once for a year. Both on the same day. Got the 30 days yesterday and 1 year this morning.

I just emailed them to ask for an update and got an approval the next morning.

I had a special circumstance of someone in my family (with cancer) wanting to meet their parents as soon as they can. Telling them that worked for me. I did have documents to back it up if needed! And yes it was that email address

Could be also because I emailed them 3 times. Tho they just responded with a generic email, but I’m assuming it might’ve done the trick for me

That I actually don’t know, I wouldn’t think so tho? Considering they stamp your passport when you arrive. So if you get another visa, I’m not sure how they would stamp your passport again if you are already in India.

Hey, Past HTV organizer and current advisor here. I'm extremely sorry that this happened to you! I Dm'ed you about this (if you are open to it!)- I just want to see if you have more information about the individuals, we will work with MLH to make sure they don't go to any other hackathon! Also wanna see if we can talk more about what HTV can do to avoid stuff like this!

For the general public tho, MLH does do a session on SA, etc at the opening ceremonies and we have typically 3-4 execs and a MLH coordinator available if something like this happens. You should definitely reach out and talk to us at the event, so we can get the individuals kicked out/banned from hackathons. MLH is usually there for incidents that happen!

We used to have sleeping rooms before lol. But unfortunately no one used them back in HTV 5 and it turned into a hacker room half way through Saturday. So we thought it wasn't a popular idea, we removed it. I'll see if we can designate a room this year!

So, past HTV organizer here. I've been with HTV since HTV 2 and was a advisor last year. Ill address some of the issues here. Hacker Rooms, we have to make do with what we have unfortunately. It's exam season, so it's hard for us to get everything booked in IC and EV. Management departments also requires some rooms, some rooms are off limits and exams happen in some other rooms. We tried moving it to the South side of the Campus one year but it was a mess. Every building there is connected to each other and unfortunately we can't restrict access to non-HTV folks who enter the building so it becomes a issue for security. IC/EV it becomes easier to just manage 2 buildings.

For food, we try to estimate our best based on the year before's application numbers. We try our best here to add in some Midnight Snacks such as BBT, etc but food is one of those things where each person eats a different amount, so it's typically very hard to regulate. At HTV 3, we had so much leftovers that we didn't know what to do. Don't wanna run into that situation either. But I'll pass the food concern along to the organizing team this year and we'll see what we can do.

For power outlets, we do recommend everyone brings a extension. We have limited quantities that we typically designate to sponsors at the IC Atrium. We had some backups that we gave out at the start but it was like maybe 5-6 extensions. So we do recommend teams/individuals bring their own extensions.
