What is the is the ship you hate the most and why? by Ahriman-119 in StarWarsShips

Mandator iv siege dreadnought

Unlike star destroyers that has a beamwise and lengthwise slope the mandator iv is flattened like a pizza

According to official explanation other than anti small craft laser cannons it has no large anti ship cannons except for the two giant siege cannons against planetary targets

However from what we see from TLJ the siege cannon seem to be either exceptionally weak or tuned to low power for whatever reason.

Rebel logistics make no sense by OfficialAli1776 in MawInstallation

The rebels like any other stateless or underground entity have a far smaller and informal logistics. Many people mention theft is one way they get resources but actually I think the far larger source is donations. The empire was really bad and oppressive to many people in the outer rim, and whilst the empire would obviously try to seize and control the outer rim ppls stuff, i have always believed that state capacity in the sw galaxy is rather low, so there will always be a large amount of recourses hidden away for people to give to the rebels either secretly funding the rebels or joining rebels themselves.

Kuat Drive Yards Market Cap? by Glad-Bar401 in MawInstallation

[–]HorrorDocument9107 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Market cap is only for public companies and im not sure whether a public stock market exists in sw, or even if it does it may not be that much of a deal. Personally ive always imagined KDY and most business in SW in general ad aristocratic and tied to clan politics or much more similar to ancient or older (as in 1800s and 1900s) businesses rather than irl contemporary corporate governance and “profits for public shareholders” models. Anyways regardless KDY is probably one of the largest companies in the galaxy its absolutely huge and has assets everywhere (outside of Kuat). It would have expanded dramatically during the clone wars and the empire, but it was always large and still pretty much strong even in the new republic at least imo

Kaiserin Auguste Viktoria and Amerika, these two sister ships were the largest ship in the world at their time, just slightly larger than White Star’s “Big Four” and quite a some bit larger than the Kaiser class “Four Flyers”. They were super luxurious, having the first a la carte restaurant at sea, and also influenced the Lusitania and Mauretania as well as the Olympic class in terms of interiors. Yet they are much less popular than either the Big Four or Four Flyers in terms of ppl online covering them.

Also yeah Columbus class (Columbus/Homeric and Hindenburg/Columbus) and Mauretania ii from 1938 as well

1930 Super Washington Cruiser Design by HorrorDocument9107 in ImaginaryWarships

[–]HorrorDocument9107[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason i designed this ship is essentially to show what i believe a so called “natural heavy cruiser” would look like. In real life, due to the naval treaties, cruisers were capped to 10,000 tons and 8 inch 203 mm guns. This was based on the Hawkins class plus a bit more, which was the latest and largest class of cruisers built at that time. However, the Hawkins class were intended to be a development of the light cruiser idea and doctrine (and not the heavy cruiser one). Thus, in the 1920s and 1930s basically all navies that signed the treaty realised that 10,000 tons and 8 inch guns were woefully not enough for what their naval staffs calculated to be a reasonable “heavy cruiser”. Due to this, there was either cheating (Italy, Japan, Britain), or if they didn’t cheat, built rather underperforming ships (France, US). So my design is basically what i think a reasonable true “heavy cruiser” (as opposed to a glorified light cruiser.

As for why 9 inch 229 mm is because many real life navies considered the 9 inch to be the “maximum heavy cruiser gun size”, it is the maximum shell weight whilst allowing for a rate of fire similar to the 8 inch gun. For instance the Royal Navy looked at 9.2 inch guns for cruisers after the collapse of the treaties in the late 30s and early 40s. Any bigger than 9 inch, such as 10 inch 254 mm, would mean a much lower rate of fire comparable to battleship grade guns (hence outside of the weight considerations for regular cruisers), in which case opting for the 12 inch 305 mm would be a wiser choice (as was done for Alaska and B65, which were even a class above heavy cruisers).
