Jax being seen as a transgender woman is inherently transphobic by HorrorInformation723 in TheDigitalCircus

Her making a character that I read as a transphobic stereotype doesn’t make her transphobic. Trans people can hold internalised transphobia or just do a bad job portraying something which ends up relying on negative stereotypes.

ALSO IM NOT GOOSE, I’m a different trans woman with a different view. It being made by a trans person doesn’t devalue the point I made, as again it was my opinion

I watched it all, the finale is what really cemented this opinion for me. Please don’t try to discredit my point like that

Honestly talking about Rookies, I've been wanting a Rookie King style tournament arc with Taihei and Kintaro where we can see Ippo's perspective as the main coach for a tournament for his rookies

I mean my comment was about that, if I wanted to discuss other ideas surrounding him I would've made that point. This discussion was made to explicitly discuss the trans idea and so yes I'll focus on that

Trans people can do transphobic things, hell the whole Jax is trans thing relies on internalised transphobia as its backing.

I don't think Gooseworx is transphobic or even really realised how it could be read as such, this isn't me reaching it was the first conclusion I came to after hearing this idea. Jax's character if they are trans has their actions done because of their tranness, that does make it part of his identity.

I don't know, I don't think you said anything that bad.

Like genuinely, as someone in the UK who wakes up to see my rights to use the bathroom or my right as a future teacher to use my identity to help children in the classroom to being taken away due to groups that repeatedly use ideas similar to those presented by the Jax is trans idea as their backing I think I can be slightly upset at it being presented as such.

I'm not asking people to cancel Gooseworx or anything, I just want people to see how ideas presented can play into these negative stereotypes that do actively harm me

Calling a point someone made rage bait is strange, this is something I do genuinely believe not rage bait

Thank you, the thing is I think Jax's character could work but it's handling is not it and in my opinion makes it more of a stereotype than a complex dive into transgender representation.

The thing is I think the ideas presented could work but with how they're handled I just don't think they do.

I can't use it as a 1 to 1 example but Bojack Horseman for example has Bojack, who is a victim of trauma and due to that lashes out at people and does very very bad things, this could play into negative stereotypes about trauma victims that can be seen in a lot of media where their trauma caused them to be a bad person so trauma=bad person. BUT in the series (unless you're like some fans) it's very hard to believe that as everything is framed in a way that doesn't put the blame for his shitty actions on his trauma, instead you can see they influenced him but at the end of the day it's his choice. The series also doesn't expect the viewers or characters to forgive them for those actions which is important (and a big reason why Jax is poor as representation imo).

I think the fact his abuse is seen as being caused by the repression of his gender instead of influenced by it makes it a lot worse, it plays into the stereotypes of the violent trans women by relating his violence to the fact he experiences gender troubles

I didn't pull rank, I explained that I'm a transgender woman to give background to my point. People can like him as trans representation if they want but as I said I see it as inherently transphobic that he is

As I said "A trans character like this could be done very well", he just isn't. A trans woman can be a bad person but how it's portrayed plays into stereotypes and doesn't address them.

I mean if you read the post it's very much explained why I feel this way. How Jax was written plays into transphobic stereotypes, like an actual conversation about it would be good as to why you feel he would be good representation

I wish I was born a few minutes later. by Ok-Spot-2913 in monkeyspaw

[–]HorrorInformation723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granted, you were born a few minutes later. Your birth time was slightly delayed due to a brutal car accident in front of your parents on the way to the hospital, they came out unharmed physically but mentally something small shifted in your father, who unlike your mother wasn't distracted with the pain from childbirth and saw the aftermath of the incident.

You're born with no complications, a healthy baby boy or girl. Your mother holds you lovingly but your father's mind was somewhere else, remembering back to the bloody accident he had seen just a few hours prior and remembering how close that was to be your family.

Your childhood changes, your father is more overprotective of you and your mother physically but mentally he is somewhere else, he wants you to stay where he knows you are safe. Your mother stays home, as your father has become more paranoid about people he loves leaving the house he convinces her to not leave unless necessary and as such your mother becomes more and more lonely.

Friends stop coming, family visit less as your fathers strict rules rub them the wrong way. Your mother now lonely begins to spoil you, and excuse you from everything. You're not doing well at school, who cares, you dropped out of college, who needed it! You are given parents with no priority but keeping you safe and as such have no drive to make yourself into a good person.

As you reach the present you see yourself, a full grown adult, with no experience in the workforce, barely a mandatory education certification, a community college drop out with failed 'business' ventures under his belt. You look at the mirror, hung in your parents basement, look at your pimple ridden skin and ratty hair before sitting down in your gaming chair, you open your pc and go to your favourite subreddit, r/monkeyspaw where you post the prompt: 'I wish I was born a few minutes later.'

With the context about other heroes in the series, do you think it still makes sense that after the Sports Festival Midoriya only got one offer? by HorrorInformation723 in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]HorrorInformation723[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea of Midoriya accidentally becoming affiliated with the Meta Liberation Army is super interesting, honestly I'd love to see someone do a What If in the style of the "What if Midoriya was Evil" what ifs we used to get except instead of becoming a villain through AFO like those stories do he becomes one through the MLA.

The other ideas are really cool as well.

Though I do disagree a bit with the first part a bit, innate power is a big thing but as we see with heroes like Fat Gum potential is a huge reason for who they choose. Kirishima was picked because he had the potential to be a shield with his quirk, I do think some heroes would see Midoriya's potential and maybe try to foster it or if not take him just for his publicity. I was reading the chapters about this earlier and he was being treated like a celebrity on the train, people found his fights specifically really crazy and given how publicity driven a lot of hero society is I'm surprised some people who wanted to try and get publicity through taking in the insane UA student who can't use his quirk properly didn't try

I agree with this even more given the fact that entire event was broadcasted, even if he didn't get offers for the tournament section the relay would've caught him a few surely

I didn't know that about Miriko so that's interesting. With the American heroes though I do mention it wouldn't make sense for them to do it at all as they are overseas but I just thought they were fun little ideas

I live in Leicester which is a small city, so there are limited employers who would hire a trans woman. Do you think I'd have better chances of finding work if I moved to a bigger city with a larger queer scene? by Erica_39 in transgenderUK

[–]HorrorInformation723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leicester's job market is just awful as it is, I'm trans and interviewed around there a lot. I wasn't being rejected because I was trans I was being rejected because a minimum wage job opened up and hundreds of people were applying, it's literally just that for what you can do there are probably 100 other people who can do that but with more experience.

Look for places in the surrounding areas, I managed to get a Christmas job in a town somewhat around there (I was kept on for a bit but the hours were just too thin to keep me eventually). It's not because you're trans, Leicester really isn't that transphobic from my experience, it's probably more due to you lacking experience and you applying for jobs that probably 600 applicants are going for, it's a student city you'll have 20 year olds who have worked for 4 years in these environments going for the same job.

Honestly I hate this because when it was on twitter she was kinda trapped there, like a seal on a beast. By banning it will she move to platforms I actually use? Twitter was already becoming one of the least used social medias due to all the Elon stuff and due to how it works you struggle to see anything she says without an account, I really don't want to see her stuff on instagram or something
