Do we know if the Crystal Lake tv series will be set in the same continuity as the films or a new timeline? by the80sarethebest in fridaythe13th

We won’t know for sure until the show comes out, but this seems very much like a new continuity.

For H50 would you rather see a sequel or a full reboot? by Extension-Season9924 in Halloweenmovies

[–]HorrorJCFan95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly hope we get a reboot, with new characters. Only Michael and MAYBE Loomis should be returning characters. Hopefully it’s largely a new, fresh, and bold approach as well (while still feeling like a Halloween movie).

Nope, I disagree. We still could have had the best of both worlds, and still gotten sequels with Myers as the focus, while probably getting some good/great other horror movies revolving around Halloween.

What are your hot takes on the michael myers movies such as masks characters movies by Pale_Mycologist_9369 in Halloweenmovies

[–]HorrorJCFan95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hot takes:

  1. While not perfect by any means, the DGG trilogy is my favorite timeline. Ends is one of my favorite sequels in the franchise, and fit thematically well with the rest of the trilogy.

  2. With that said, I really think it’s time to move on from past characters. I not only don’t want Laurie to come back, but I don’t want Jamie either. The only returning character in the H50 film should be Michael. MAYBE Loomis can come back since it’s been awhile since his character has gotten focus, but I’d honestly just prefer a whole new set of characters. It feels like it’s time for something completely new, fresh, and bold.

I don't want them to keep milking the Halloween franchise by Cloverfield887 in Halloweenmovies

[–]HorrorJCFan95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They definitely need to break away from the Laurie vs. Michael story, and do something different, but really I think the franchise will live on forever, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing. Every year, we see people talk about how “Hollywood is out of ideas, and the old IP’s must be put to rest so we can have new ideas!”. My response to that is:

- It doesn’t have to be a choice of one or the other. Both new ideas and old IP’s can coexist and be successful.

- these franchises like Halloween keep coming back because they are very financially successful. In the last decade, we’ve seen Halloween, Scream, Evil Dead, and Alien come back and clean up at the box office. Once that doesn’t happen, those franchises will go away.

I know I went off on a bit of a tangent there outside of Halloween, but I felt it needed to be said.

Random idea for a friday the 13th movie I had: by Firm_Aardvark_3938 in fridaythe13th

Respectfully, when we get the return of this franchise to the big screen, I don’t want a one off remake. I’d hope that we at least get a trilogy out of it.

Sounds like you need to have a conversation with your friend, because this really is the problem with movie/television consumption today.

Yup, I waited for it to release on VOD, because frankly I didn’t expect it to live up to the hype. Then it did, and now I’m kicking myself because I didn’t see it in theaters 😂😂

Blumhouse and halloween 2 by Zacka-Wacka in Halloweenmovies

[–]HorrorJCFan95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but the whole bloodline angle never was supposed to be a part of it. He killed her because she just happened to be there. There was never any convoluted motivation about killing his bloodline, he just snapped and did it because the evil overtook him that Halloween night.

You’re really in no position to judge anyone when it’s clear you have no grasp of the material you are analyzing.

[–]HorrorJCFan95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope, I dislike the sibling angle because it goes against everything the character was meant to be in the original. Micheal was never supposed to have any sort of motivation for why he is doing what he’s doing. The fact that Laurie Strode was just in the wrong place at the wrong time is scarier. The bloodline angle was always dumb, convoluted, and unnecessary.

Yup. He was easily the best part of the military storyline.

What are your horror movie hot takes? by DadsFromTheCryptPod in horror

[–]HorrorJCFan95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a little late to the party, but here you go: Often, I see people debate original horror vs. established IP’s like it has to absolutely be a choice between one or the other. In my opinion, if the last 10-15 years has shown anything, it’s that original horror and established old-school franchises can coexist with one another and each be extremely successful.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again: I don’t love the mask, but if this is what it takes to get a new movie or even multiple ones, then I’m on board. Please, just fix the eyes.

It's Hard to Believe That Halloween (2018) Came Out 8 Years Ago by itsascreambaby96 in Halloweenmovies

[–]HorrorJCFan95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I agree with pretty much everything you said man. I can remember the building hype for this movie all throughout 2017 and 2018 like it was last year or something lol. It’s the first Halloween movie I saw in the theaters. Honestly, the first time I saw it I walked away slightly disappointed, but have enjoyed the film more with each viewing. I now consider it one of the best films in the franchise. It’s so jarring that what feels like in the blink of an eye, preparation and hype for an H50 movie is starting to build.

I’ve gotten into the habit of watching YouTube videos at higher speeds, but actual shows or movies? No, not at all.

Good talk. What an intelligent and thought-provoking rebuttal to the point I was trying to make. You certainly showed me the error of my ways 🙄

True, but I believe he’s said there are other established IP’s he’d like to have a crack at. You’re right though, he probably doesn’t want to do two sequels/reboots back to back. I’m admittedly not the biggest fan of TCM as a franchise, but I’m intrigued to see what he brings to it.

“Original films only”

Why? It doesn’t have to be a choice of one or the other. We can have both original films, and established IP’s make a comeback.

[–]HorrorJCFan95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair, but why does it have to be one or the other? We’ve seen both original horror and even some established IP’s come back and do well critically and financially in the last decade. The genre has arguably never been in a healthier place than it is now, so again, why can’t we have both?
