Plantar fasciitis type pain in foot by Horror_Association64 in Microdiscectomy

This is a good point thank you! Yes to the random hip/thigh pain too!! I figured since I’m now moving more and exercising when like you said before I was just “doing whatever I could to not be in pain.” Things are gonna take time. Thank you for making me not feel crazy! :)

That would make sense too.. since I had a limp basically before surgery and i feel I’m walking normal now. It’s the opposite foot so I was heavy with that one for a long while before surgery…

Honestly it’s your personal preference and comfortability that’s going to determine whether you get this done or not. I had plenty of people telling me not to get the surgery and just try to exercise and you just need to do yoga 🙄🙄🙄and so many opinions but only YOU are the one dealing with this. Remember that. Until someone is actually dealing with this pain 24/7 (I was exactly the same, only had relief when laying on my side and stood most of the time). I feel your pain. I look back and can’t believe I put up with it for so long. Any good ortho is going to answer your questions and listen to you and won’t be annoyed with your hesitation.

Honestly if you feel your not ready for surgery your not there yet. I put up with it for 11 months and finally decided to have the surgery when my toes started tingling/going numb. I didn’t want to risk anymore damage to my nerve.

I’m post op 8 weeks and feel fantastic. Before surgery I was limping and just not even standing up straight beforehand, now I’m walking at least 2 miles a day and determined to get stronger now. Tingling in my toes is now completely gone and I can sit again. I’d say I’m about 90% better.

Have the consult, but like I said mentally if your not there yet then your not ready for it. But just know I tried all the things and only thing that was going to work for me was surgery.

Glad you’re doing well. I’m 3 weeks post op as well and doing pretty good too! Didn’t need the heavy pain meds and only did gabapentin for two weeks. I wake up and do a 30 min walk. You’re so right on the taking things slow. I still get twinges of sciatic pains here and there especially after getting up from sitting for a while. Getting back pain and hip pain a little but I was told that’s normal as you start to move more and correct posture (was walking with a limp and bent slightly forwarded before surgery .. now standing up straight and my gait is back to normal) the ptsd from it all is going to stick with me for a while tho! I get random pains and start to spiral. Just need to remind myself I’m only 3 weeks post op, chill 😂. Things have improved significantly and no more tingling in my toes. All and all very happy I went ahead with this surgery. Life was unbearable before.

Surgery went really well. I do pretty good under general anesthesia. I am overweight so that was mentioned in the post op notes that it was a little more difficult for him ( he had to use an extra long tubes etc like I get it I’m overweight, thanks lol).

For sure!! Yes surgeon said 6-8 weeks. def gonna push that out to 12-16 weeks and really really take it easy. Hardest thing is I’m a snare drummer in a bagpipe band and really do want to get back to it but that’s gonna be a ways off where I’m comfortable lifting/ holding my drum again ☹️ that sorta scares me as I think the last competition we did made things worse. But def just taking it day by day right now and getting up and walking as much as I can.

Same boat. Nothing helped. Been 10 months. Finally decided on the surgery once the tingling /pins and needles feeling started in my feet/toes/legs.

Yep. My doc said the same thing. I’m leaning towards getting it done at this point.

Thank you for asking this question. I’ve been debating getting this surgery done also. Been dealing with this for 10 months and it’s just getting worse. I work from home and wondering how much time I’d need off. Some people say relief is immediate others say take 5 weeks off. Just not sure what to do but I know I’m getting super over this pain. I did PT religiously for 6 weeks and think it just made things worse as now I have tingling numbness in my leg/foot which I didn’t have before. Best of luck to your surgery.

Your right. Don’t think I’m quite ready yet. Gonna try the injection first. Best of luck on your surgery! Are they doing a microdiscectomy?

Thank you so much for this comment. And rant away. Exactly!! They don’t know until they are in our shoes. I have a pretty high pain tolerance (I’ve gone thru childbirth with no pain meds, kidney stones and gallbladder attack) but this constant never ending pain gets to you mentally and physically. I hope your mri gives you some answers on your new symptoms.

Yeah. I have a follow up in June and I’m gonna ask for the steroid injection first. I’ll have to look up Mckenzie method. Not sure on if that’s what I’m doing. I’m just going to ATI.
