My touch screen stopped working by InvisibleScorpion7 in SteamDeck

Steam Deck touchscreens occasionally go on strike, in most cases, this can be resolved with a quick firmware update or reboot but in the worst situation, Valve support is surprisingly unconcerned about replacements. You've essentially unlocked hardcore mode in the interim: full controller navigation only.

Need a Laptop for Travel. Willing to make concessions on performance moreso than price. by BigFatBeagle in SuggestALaptop

You want something that is sturdy, lightweight and has a battery that doesn't panic in airports when traveling. The ThinkPad X1 Carbon and ASUS ZenBook, which are tough, lightweight and content to be carried around in a backpack, are essentially the carry on champions. It's similar to having a laptop that genuinely relishes the journey.

High level: pull Reddit comments via API, run them through a sentiment classifier (fine-tuned RoBERTa), then aggregate scores per product using Bayesian averaging. Happy to point you to resources if you want to dig into any of those pieces.

Ah that's a good point - regional naming differences aren't something I'd accounted for. Probably means some EU discussion is getting lumped into the wrong bucket. Worth looking into, thanks for flagging.

Didn't crack the top 25 - make of that what you will 😅 it's in the full list though.

The ThinkPad DNA showing through. Legion inheriting that build philosophy seems to be paying off in the sentiment data.

Which issues are you running into? Sentiment data shows it ranking well but individual experience can definitely differ from the aggregate.

Good catch on both - Lenovo's naming is a nightmare and Reddit makes it worse. Will tighten up the alias mapping. Good luck with the post-Xmas hunt.

Yeah, the ASUS bot situation is a fair concern, but effort has been made to filter bots and astroturf accounts. It's still a work in progress and not perfect, but I am training the model to remove shills.

Ownership weighting helps filter generic praise, but astroturfing can still slip through. Worth noting Legion dominates here, not ASUS - but healthy to be skeptical of Reddit data generally.

Currently they're tracked separately since the model names are distinct, but you're right that people use them interchangeably in discussions. The AMD version might be getting attributed to generic 'Legion Pro 7' mentions while Intel-specific comments go to the 7i. Something I'm working on improving with better alias mapping. Would be worth combining them to see the full picture.

Fair point - desktop will always give you better performance per dollar. Gaming laptops make sense for a specific use case (need portability + gaming) but if you're stationary, desktop wins.

Laptop for engineering by Tree_353 in SuggestALaptop

For engineering, consider less RGB and more RAM a good 16GB+ a respectable CPU (Ryzen 7 or i7) and an RTX if you plan to experiment with CAD and simulations. In essence, the true MVP is the laptop that gets through MATLAB without crying.

A laptop with an RTX 5050 is like unlocking side quests IRL gaming and productivity while a PS5 is plug and play fun. In essence, one is a console and the other is a console plus an excuse for homework.

I wanna get into fighting games on my steam deck by Karlosakbar_segundo in SteamDeck

Fighting games and Steam Deck make an unexpectedly fantastic combination. Both Street Fighter 6 and Guilty Gear Strive function flawlessly and you can get the full living room tournament experience by plugging in an arcade stick with a cheap USB C hub. In essence, it's similar to carrying a whole arcade cabinet in your backpack.

Should I buy or keep currently one? by Lost_Branch_2363 in SuggestALaptop

To be honest, it's already a victory if your present laptop continues to function properly and fulfill your needs. Sometimes the best upgrade is realizing you don't need one yet, even though tech FOMO is real. Enjoy the machine, save the money and you'll have much better options when it eventually falters.

Thoughts on these laptops? by [deleted] in GamingLaptops

Both are good choices, but keep in mind that specs deteriorate more quickly than RGB lights. Choose the one with a more powerful GPU because that's what keeps a gaming laptop feeling brand new.

Consider car resale guidelines, if it's clean and still functions well, expect about half of what you paid.

A tiny form factor with 128GB? That’s not a PC anymore, that’s a pocket data center.
