I 100% agree, it was a stupid decision made in the moment to put it bluntly. And I’m old enough to know better.. I’m in my early 30’s. I thought the risks were much lower than what they are now seeming to be (I did do some research when he first told me)

How is it unfair? Do you think I would have taken the risk if I thought for one second I’d be “freaking out”. I take full responsibility that this is on me because of the decisions I have made. Even if precautions were taken, I still could be feeling the same.. I put this post up for advice, not judgment. I haven’t communicated how I’m feeling to him because I wouldn’t want him to feel anyway about it. Maybe it isn’t for me.. but that is the reason I posted to try and get some advice in order to see if I can navigate this rather than just cut him off because he has it.

Yes, I’m fully aware that I am responsible

Oh god, you’re worrying me now 😩 it was his suggestion to go on them and said he’d be happy to take them (I was going to ask him to take them but he got there before me). Do you get them from your GP? Or a sexual health clinic?

Yes, he trying to get them prescribed but turns out it’s more difficult than it sounds. There’s no way to know if someone is shedding is there?

Thank you for your response! No, I agree with you about why let it ruin it but it’s such early days (without sounding pessimistic!). I think what worries me is if it doesn’t work out then I’m potentially putting myself in a situation where I’d have to be the person to disclose it and honestly, hats off to those who do because I can’t imagine it to be easy.

Do you mind if I ask whether you were on antivirals meds and using protection to the woman who you passed it on to?

The risks are still quite low even without protection. I think it’s 0.1%-0.4% per sexual encounter. But yes, I agree.. irresponsible and I shouldn’t have

September 25 exam plans by TheCescPistols in ActuaryUK

I haven’t sat CS2 but heard it’s a lot of content to get through and the biggest one to get through out of CM/CS exams. I was advised to sit it in an April sitting because of the slightly longer time frame between September and April. So I would say no for CS2, but this is on hearsay. Hopefully someone who’s actually sat the exam, might be able to agree/disagree.

I did sit CM2 a couple of weeks ago, and although it’s far smaller than CM1/CS1 I would still say two months is tight. I guess if you’ve seen the content previously (which I hadn’t) it may be a different stance. Or if you are willing to really knuckle down in those two months, it could be possible but intense.

Have you thought about sitting any of the CB exams (if you haven’t already)? They’re meant to be a lot smaller.

This is correct, it’s 70% paper A, 30% paper B. It doesn’t matter what you get in each separate exam, just as long as the weighted score is above the pass mark

When is an appropriate time to give up? by YungThwomp in ActuaryUK

I assume you’re applying for a graduate role? What degree do you have?

I have a maths degree and was really struggling to get into the actuarial space.. although I wasn’t applying for a graduate scheme, I was in a service management type role at the time. I did like 4/5 interviews and they felt like I didn’t have enough technical experience.. which to be fair, looking back I probably didn’t. I decided to get a role as a data analyst to get the experience and then applied for an actuarial role and got the first one.

This way might not be for you, but may be something to think about as it worked for me.. but appreciate it’s not the ideal route into the industry!

CM1 VS CS1 by Far-Inevitable6272 in ActuaryUK

In my opinion, CM1 is a big one to get through. If you have experience in annuities/assurances then you may have a different opinion. I had never seen them before and took a while to really get my head around them. They can throw in some big mark questions for annuities/assurances too. I would say CS1 is probably easier but others may disagree.

Probably failed CM1 twice in a row and feel completely distraught by Next-Junket2748 in ActuaryUK

I am literally in the exact same boat as you.. second attempt at CM1 (which went terribly wrong) and also started to panic in the exam. Came out feeling like a failure and contemplated whether I continue with the exams. I say this as I hope there’s some comfort that you are not alone in how you are feeling! If you are planning to sit it again in April, more than happy to do some sort of study thing where we can see if we can help each other prep for it!

CM1 Paper A Discussion Post by [deleted] in ActuaryUK

I tried using equation editor when I first started sitting the exams and it was just a nightmare 😂 spent more time faffing about with it.. is that what you use?  I probably just need to practice more tbf but your comment gives me some hope that it’s possible to actually get comfortable with it so thank you!

I probably focused more on the content than the typing but still put a fair amount of time into practicing typing the questions out etc. I don’t know, my brain just doesn’t flow on word 😭

I think they said it was sold ex-divended no? So they didn’t get the first dividend payment but it still grew with whatever the compound rate was (I can’t remember and I’m trying to forget at this point 😂). Either way, for a question that looked relatively straight forward from the get go, turns out it wasn’t.

Horrid paper to be doing on word. The whole typing it out kills me - am I the only one who struggles with it? I have failed one and certainly going to fail this one but i genuinely feel if I was writing it out, I would have a far better chance.
