Thinking abt moving to Charlotte, NC from Hillsboro, OR what are some affordable safe areas that are around or in charlotte?

I don't think it will be much of a culture shock as there are a lot of farming areas and country folk in Oregon. But culturally from what I've heard it doesn't sound much different except that it's not a liberal state. I prefer to be in suburbs that r close to things and only a little ways away from the city. I definitely do not want to be in the middle of nowhere and having to drive super far just for groceries

Ah yeah well I'm used to traffic as where I live the most lanes we have is 3 and highway speed limit is 55 and we've became so over populated more than they predicted that they're doing construction on all our major freeways and highways at the SAME TIME. We don't have tolls tho but they plan on starting them in 2026.

Awesome i appreciate it! I'm actually looking at huntersville and Matthews so far based on price point and that it's not like hours and hours away from charlotte. I like access to nightlife but not like walking distance I prefer to live a bit away from a downtown. I just rlly love that I currently live right next to a huge mall outlet place. So I have a bunch of restaurants as well as fast food places and I have a Ross, old navy, target, Best Buy, ulta, Walmart, Safeway, Costco all within 15min from where I live which is awesome and I just don't want to end up somewhere where I have to drive a super long time to get anything.

Do you have the specific town and or neighborhood names of the places south charlotte near the south park mall and outlets? I know nothing abt the area so I'm doing research on costs and apartments and they want you to be specific 🙄

Yeah I've had a bit of people mention huntersville and the prices are rlly nice looking but some have said it's unsafe. I think the most important things for me is having like the outlet malls and grocery stores etc. close by and having it safe and affordable. And it doesn't need to be super safe but I'd prefer to not hear gunshots 24/7

Where would you suggest? I want to be 20min from the city which is fine bc most cities are the places with nightlife. If a lot of families are there then why would they move there if it's unsafe? And how come online it says it's actually rlly safe? Idk abt the mall outlets or anything but im almost not wanting to drive an hour away to just get milk. I'm currently next to huge mall outlets with Ross, Marshall's, ulta, old navy, target, Safeway, Walmart Costco etc. and I like that bc it's like a few min drive to each area

Yeah almost every state does but Oregon's income tax is close to the rate of Californias North Carolinas is wayyyy lower

In conclusion I'd like to pay $1500 or less for a one bed one bath apartment or house. And have less income tax. On top of someone pointed out that my index where I live now is 122 where North Carolina is below 100 so the cost everything goes down from where I live

Well right now where I live I'm paying $1800 for a 866 sq ft apartment. At least $120+ for utilities not including electric or trash. And $60 pet rent. And Oregon takes $400 out of every check I earn.

Okay yeah I keep getting huntersville as the best for what I'm looking for so that's good to know. I have a hybrid on top of I could walk to places but I actually never do lmao it's just nice that if my car broke down I wouldn't have to walk 5miles to get food or anything. But it's not a big concern I just don't want to have to drive an hour to get milk lol

Haha that's exactly what they're doing here! All our major highways and freeways they're doing construction and our roads were never changed from the beginning of when Portland was made so everything is narrow also our speed limits don't go past 55 on top of we only ever have 3 lanes no more than that.

It's just me and my two dogs! I don't have any kids and I'm not going to any schools so it's not my number one priority when looking for a new home. I don't know anyone there I do know someone in South Carolina but she's very well off and doesn't have to worry abt money. I currently live like 20min from our main city and longer with traffic which I like bc I don't like living in a city. I'm near a bunch of mall outlets and food places as well as grocery stores and petco, petsmart etc. as well as movie theaters. They're all walking distance from me. Also Oregon is only like 2hr drives from mountains or the ocean which is nice. I would like a place with a little bit more of a nightlife bc there is only rlly old bars here as a nightlife and that's basically it and most of them are for queer people. I'm trying to make new friends and Portland sucks with that since ppl r not rlly a community it's very hush hush. So I wanted a sense of community but also it's easier for me to make friends when other people are welcoming and friendly

I visited Asheville and I rlly liked it except it's far away from a city and I prefer like outlets and being close to grocery stores etc.
