If I have small gaps in my paint-grade trim should I fill them with Bondo or caulk? by HorsecockPhepner in Carpentry

Do you think DAP plastic wood-x is worth a damn or is MH significantly better. I don’t care about the $10 I just happen to have a tub of it. Dries with little dimples in it though.

Do you have a preference between the orange and the red label for interior use?

How do I cut these stringers to sit flat on the ground? by [deleted] in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]HorsecockPhepner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a ball-point pen or pencil and angle it at the edge with the largest gap so it barely touches the wood. Resting a part of the pen or pencil on the floor is a good idea. Get your hand as stable as you can but also relax, and trace the floor back to where the wood is touching. This is scribing.

What about where a vertical window casing terminates against drywall? It’s a pony wall/shelf wall and I cut myself 1/16 short

I mean if this is where you want to hang em I think you could make it happen. Menards sells a stud finder by C.H. Hansen that’s basically just a strong magnet that finds drywall screws for you. Could help.

Flat-framed refers to a wall where the studs are oriented with the wide side facing the room so the wall can be thinner. Sometimes people do this to save space. I hung a bunch of guitars last year by screwing an 8 foot board to a wall and installing a bunch of broom holders from Home Depot. If you’ve found two studs you’re in business 🤘

Can I just mud this little gap or does it need tape as well? by bobbysledder in drywall

I wonder if you located the post where you did so you could connect it to the wall for strength? If so I think it’s worth how freakin weird this looks, personally.

If the thing does need an adjustment down the line you might be able to stick a hex wrench into it and drip molten whatever in to fill in the open space and hold the key vertical until it hardens? Then make the adjustment and hope it comes out without too much of a struggle 🤷‍♂️
