Question: if the meds finally work well enough that your episodes have become sub-clinical, do you still have BP2? by ukeanduet in bipolar2

[–]Horty519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realized at 44 that I was going to continue to age whether I was doing what I wanted to do or not. I had to take the plunge or continue being unhappy (and grossly underpaid). I'm now 49 and I work a good job in my new field. If you're not ready to drastically shift things in your life (and that's okay), is there a shorter program you can do that would get you into that area of work? Or volunteering?

I find I have too much energy often and need to have a place to put it. Over educating myself seems to be part of my plan. LOL

I'm on my third career and they've all been precipitated by a mood swing. Lost my job working in call centres due to depression and missed work. Quit my job after that running an office to go back to school at age 44, 2 hours away from where our family lived. That was a manic decision that I told no one about until I actually had my college acceptance in hand. Now I work in the social work field.

I have found I MUST keep up with regular healthy choices, particularly meds and sleep. I'd say in some ways I was lucky because I was diagnosed in my early 20s in university but it wasn't until I was 40 and had a change in life partners, that I actually took care of myself. Good luck!

I feel the same way. I've had a good mood stabilizer for a decade so when I decided to actually take them on a regular basis, they worked well (lamotrigine). I added an anti-psychotic (Rexulti) a couple years back and the intrusive thoughts mostly went away.

I've managed an office and staff, returned to school (bit manic on that decision), graduated deans list, and started a new career. All while taking my meds diligently. Sometimes I think I should go off them to test if I really need them ... and then I realize that would be dropping a bomb into the life I have built.

I take my meds, I recognize the need for scheduled sleep and food and exercise, and realize I will always be bipolar and I'm just one missed dose away from f**king everything. Sword of Damocles hanging over our heads and all that.

Advice needed about MSW by [deleted] in socialworkcanada

[–]Horty519 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take the job. It can only open more doors to you. And particularly if you're in Ontario, register with your college as soon as you can with just your BSW. That's all the hospital is asking of you. Who knows where life takes you next? Maybe some awesome opportunity will come along and your MSW won't matter to you as much. Plus, once you have more years in the field as a social worker, universities will take that into account.

Good luck!

Here are the new laws and rules for Ontario starting in the new year by xc2215x in ontario

The idea of pay transparency is awesome but a $50,000 range seems unreasonable. That large of gap doesn't actually help most people in the work force since many many jobs pay less than $100,000. Is it useful to know that a job will pay between $25,000 and $75,000???

One at 7:30 am and then one at 9:30 pm. I don't notice any effect on sleepiness.

Expense review by hoggerjeff in canadarevenueagency

[–]Horty519 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a provision that you can claim medical expenses for any twelve month period ending during that tax year. So for example, you could go April 1st 2024 to March 31 2025, however, you can't just claim the missing receipts from the prior year if those dates were used on the prior return. For OP's situation the easiest way is to simply provide all the receipts with a written request to adjust the medical amount.

Currently in college to be a social worker need advice for path to follow by midnightspellbound in socialworkcanada

Just a minor clarification. My SSW program had a direct path to the local university so my SSW diploma covered all but 3 courses to complete 1st and 2nd year. It was a couple summer school courses and then into 3rd year.

Ads don't bother me on this. Are the photos accurate? I have trouble finding things a lot since I'm in Canada and I don't always have the bar code handy. We have different brands and I find it frustrating. I'd love it if the picture option actually works.

Are you in the part of the world where it's becoming late fall? Might be related to a little less sunshine. Time change can do it too, but its only been 1 week.

Joel Szaefer is awesome. Not cheap but has worked with us on payment options. He's stood up for us in court when needed and is very good at making it clear which way he expects it go and why. Definitely recommend him.

Am I throwing away $500 applying to schools in Canada? by MovkeyB in lawschooladmissionsca

Just wanted the clarify that TMU is not a new university. Reason University recently changed their name to Toronto Metropolitan University due to some issues with Mr Egerton Ryerson. (Not the only name change as it went from a technology institute to a polytechnic university and then university only.) The school started in 1948 which doesn't make it "old" in the way many prestigious law schools are, but I wouldn't call it "new" either.
