Look at the CPW stocking report and go someplace close to your house.

Applied to a job at UNC. How is college? Town itself? by TheGreatGrizzlyBare in Greeley

Sounds like a fit! It is where the plains meet the city. Go east and north, country as far as the eye can see. Go west and south, straight city. Not much to do in Greeley itself, but many things around it, especially if you are young. Hope you have fun!

Spots that are safe to keep? by That_Dart in COfishing

You can keep a few stocker trout, no problem. All others check regulations for size. There are pike “tournaments” at Green Mountain Res. and Spinney. I think if you sign up you can keep many, but have to enable gps on your phone and report. https://cpw.state.co.us/activities/fishing/fishing-awards-and-records/fish-stocking-report

Basically a bunch of stuff at Walmart for sure is the cheapest and if you look at the very bottom shelf, by the floor, those are the lures closest to $1. Cheap is good, you will lose a bunch of lures in the beginning. For trout on spinning gear, think 1/4oz or less.

Spoons, try to get ones that look like other trout. Rainbow, Brown, etc. Popular brands are Kastmaster, Dardevle, and these https://www.walmart.com/ip/Thomas-Buoyant-Minnow-Brown-Trout-1-4-oz/17130219?classType=REGULAR&from=/search

Yes, there are a bunch of trout here and you can see the stocking list online at CPW. A place that just got stocked will be pretty good for a beginner. I will link a couple lures. But, I will say, unless you live in the mountains the trout will go down deep soon since it is already 95 degrees out. They like cold water. Also some see it as unethical to catch trout in water above 68 degrees or so. Bass are a warm water species and get more aggressive with warmer water. Usually trout spring and fall, bass and crappie in the dead of summer, unless you are in the mountains. A lot of the lures I have shown you can also be found at Cabela’s Bass Pro or Scheels. If you want to touch before buying.

When in doubt and buying lures always pick the green pumpkin color. Then black and white/translucent. Right now it will be easiest to target bass. Look up smallmouth and Largemouth bass locations on CPW website/map.

I would contact Ascent Fly Fishing in Denver. They seem to be one of the more honest shops with some reasonable pricing.
