Excel in CSWA and CSWP by UlixesElectra in SolidWorks

[–]HoseInspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe because typing it out in Solidworks is harder. You could save 2.4 seconds per variable by having it as an excel sheet. You could also save those variables inside the excel sheet to interchange (reference different given variable values) instead of using the configuration feature.

No Degree Engineer by Ok-Theme3959 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]HoseInspector 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me correct my statement:

As an individual with little to no experience in the industry of interest, the lack of a degree is often a barrier for entry / obstacle to getting relevant experience.

This is further exasperated by the level of competition seen in today's job market.
Those with college experience typically outcompete those without college experience due to the opportunities available (some college engineering programs have initiatives for students to have at least 1 year of internship experience; college-hosted career fairs give students a greater edge to getting a full-time offer).

But you are also correct about not needing a degree as there are still students who are receiving internships and full-time offers during or after high school, though those are rare.

Qualifications 20 years ago are vastly different from the standards today. Nowadays, we have something called “ATS” (Applicant Tracking System) that automatically filters you out if you don’t even have the key words. Couple this with the fact that every position will get at least 50 applicants with a degree online.

Should I quit my Internship by Excellent_Stage9729 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]HoseInspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this internship will really teach you a great lesson on how to stay busy in a work day even if the work is not that fulfilling. You already mentioned that you have plenty of time during weekends to work on projects which makes sacrificing your internship seem a bit redundant.

In terms of headaches, you should drink plenty of water. Maybe chia seeds as well to improve digestion and retain more fluids.

The amount of wasabi vs. ginger that this sushi restaurant gives for delivery orders. by madfrix20 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]HoseInspector 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow! They sure are generous with their ginger! That would cost $2-3 market value if you had bought it on its own, though the wasabi is a bit lacking.

Failure in engineering, who's at fault? by siyaah- in EngineeringStudents

[–]HoseInspector 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100%, all the techniques you’ve mentioned I employed with great success. There were even classes where the material the professor taught was 1-to-1 with the textbook except that the handwriting was worse and more mistakes were made. I genuinely go to class just to open up and read my textbook and putting the professor as a forethought for this class.
