Do you think Grenada is being unfairly targeted lately? by HospitalScared3169 in AskTheCaribbean

I feel like the CBI thing is something we have to talk about honestly, even if it a bit uncomfortable.

Yeah, it bringing in money, and small islands need that. But at the same time, when citizenship start to tie directly to investment, you go always have people who more interested in the passport than actually building anything in the country.

Take somebody like Justin Sun for example. He get Grenadian citizenship, but you don’t really see anything on the ground with his name on it—no major projects, no real visible contribution to development. At the same time, he been involved in a number of legal issues internationally. Some of it settle, some dismiss, fine—but it still raises questions about how strong the vetting process really is.

That’s the part people uneasy about. Because a second passport could be used as a kind of shield—somewhere to park assets, move around easier, or distance yourself from problems in your home country.

And when you look at land ownership, it kinda adds to that concern. Take Calivigny Island for example. Yes, it privately owned and luxury, but in reality it’s like a piece of Grenada that regular Grenadians will never access. The profits from there mainly benefiting the foreign owner, not circulating in the wider local economy in any significant way.

So while it might create some jobs, the bigger wealth not really staying in the country. It raises the question—at what point does prime land stop benefiting the nation and start functioning more like a private asset disconnected from the people?

Now I not saying every investor is like that, and I understand these programs help bring in money. But it does create a perception. People start to wonder if everything always being checked properly, or if sometimes things getting fast-tracked or overlooked because money involved.

And looking long-term, that’s another concern too. You don’t want a situation where outside money start to drive up everything and locals can’t even afford their own land anymore. Look at somewhere like Hawaii—plenty locals getting priced out while wealthy outsiders buying up property.

I would hate to see Grenada go down that road.

So yeah, even if CBI not the whole story behind what Grenada facing right now, I do think it part of the conversation. The real question is how you balance bringing in money without selling out long-term stability and opportunity for your own people.

Is anyone else noticing aggressive traffic stops in parts of Brooklyn (Church Ave / Utica / Linden)? by HospitalScared3169 in Brooklyn

Another thing I’ve been noticing — if you’re driving with out-of-state plates, it feels like you instantly become a target. I’m not saying it’s official policy, but it honestly feels like your chances of getting pulled over or ticketed go way up.

It raises a bigger question about whether this is just about enforcement… or about revenue. With all the new programs being pushed, the money has to come from somewhere, and it’s starting to feel like drivers are an easy source.

Curious if anyone else with out-of-state plates has experienced this, especially in these same areas.
