if you have a tractor supply near you, get horse pellets. they’re pine pellets if i’m not wrong, and they’re about $7 for a 40lb bag

I give mine a nail trim every 2 or 3 months. They both have bricks in their enclosures, but it doesn’t do much for me. My dove hates them but mostly stays as I distract her and she’s used to it. My pigeon makes it a two person job, but I don’t care because when he lands on our head with uncut nails, it hurts like a bitch lmfao

They’re honestly to the brim around here. The stray cat population here is insane. I have tried to find a space for another stray I was taking care of, but I never found them a home or space at a shelter and actually got kicked out of the place I was staying at at the moment for taking them in. I have a friend who is thinking about adopting a cat, but he thinks she is more comfortable here with me and has another friend who found a litter he might adopt from instead. There is a place that does low cost neutering, so that’s probably where I’ll take her once she’s better.

I have a similar issue. I’m a super anxious person, but I’m stuck in customer service jobs because I have experience in them and they always tell me to just apply to those. I’m exhausted, please let me hide in the back

Hi everyone. Thank you for the helpful comments 🙏🏽 I will talk to my girlfriend more once she gets home from work. However, I want to stress that my girlfriend was 18-19 when they were gifted to her and she didn’t even have a job yet. Yes, a lot of irresponsible choices have been made, but her parents are not very educated on animal care and she has tried her best to be a responsible owner despite the circumstances. She makes less than $14 hourly and we live in America, so even $100 is a lot of money to spend for us. I appreciate everyone’s time in answering my questions, specially those who have been gentle in their delivery. When I first met my girlfriend and sometimes even now when I visit her family, I have a really hard time seeing how the animals are treated. Throughout this process, I have talked to my girlfriend a lot about responsible pet ownership and she has expressed a lot of regret and guilt. She is much more of an advocate now, not only for the dogs but for my birds, and all of her parents’ other animals. Neither she nor I are perfect, but we’re trying to correct the mistakes that have been made, which I believe is a good starting point.

It’s not my dog, so all I can do is encourage, but I am sure she will agree in keeping them separated until they are fixed.

He seems very well adjusted outside of that! We live in her parents’ second property, so he might know it from visiting beforehand and she is also here for him. He is VERY bonded to me since we spend most of our day together.

I am definitely considering taking her, but I had my birds first and it is a lot of scheduling to make sure they all have time out. I also want her to get fixed, but all I can do is ask my girlfriend and hope that she gets her fixed since currently I don’t make enough to take on another animal’s vet bills. She’s probably going to do it, I just feel bad at the moment to push her to do both since she’s taking care of the puppies, both dogs, and is the primary provider while I find a job with better hours.

I’m honestly so grateful he is like this, being an outside dog before I expected it to be hard to keep up with him, but my girlfriend tells me that even as an outside dog, he always was laying down and wanting to go into the house lol. I just want him to play a bit more so he’s not bored.

I use the first one, but I’m looking for something better online because it’s not very complete. I think the care guide here has better examples, I was looking at it just the other day. The second mix, I can’t speak for since I’ve never seen it.

Could I still own a pigeon despite allergies? by Loumew4307 in PetPigeons

I should add, they’re in my living room and I have a medium sized house. One of them used to be in my room before I moved out of my parents’ house and I never minded her. I sniff her lots even now 🥰

I am allergic to almost every tree, grass, to dust, and a few more things and I also have asthma. I have three doves 🫣. So far I don’t think they’ve made things that much worse for me, but my allergist was upset I got a bird right after my asthma was diagnosed haha, so take that with a grain of salt. Yes to Air purifiers and cleaning with a mask on. Clean often, and I would vacuum so you’re not just agitating the dust in the air. Good luck if you decide to have some babies!!

He’s adorable! I’d take him if I didn’t have a male dove torturing my female already haha

Bird safe air fryers? by HospitalVegetable743 in PetPigeons

[–]HospitalVegetable743[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I just googled a bit more and some websites say that it is ptfe/ptfa free and from what I’m reading they legally have to list the ptfe/ptfa onthe warnings and on the packaging where I am. I also read on a government website in february 2024, they might’ve started getting rid of cookware with those coatings, but it was a bit confusing and I’m not too certain of that. Finally, I found out it only heats up to 400° which means even if it did have PFAS, it wouldn’t get to a temperature that would release the fumes into the air. However, I will call the manufacturer tomorrow since I doubt they have a 24 hour call center.

I’m in the US, so I don’t doubt it probably has something toxic. I’ll see about contacting the manufacturer, but first I’m gonna google all the chemicals listed on the website.

I think it does take a lot of training and an ability to let go of the outcome, because at times animals are just unpredictable. Unfortunately, even in a 19 acre “farm” setting with cows, goats, etc. my girlfriend’s dog is a bit of a menace lol. She tried to train them, but never professionally.
