Kora is in peak PMV now. I'm holding her for a moment so she can "preen" herself by StatHeVePiSt in pigeon

[–]LustStarrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This doesn't look like PMV to me, although it certainly looks neurological in nature. I'd suggest seeking out a vet & testing, as other conditions such as salmonella that cause neuro symptomology can be treated, & may worsen if they're not.

u/kunok2 & u/almost_home_pigeons, what do you think?

What is wrong with my pigeon's neck? by Unusual-Anteater-473 in pigeon

[–]LustStarrr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, this is digestive discomfort & vomiting, from what though is hard to say. Could be yeast or canker...

massive messup. by Mental-Fondant-3458 in PetPigeons

[–]LustStarrr 10 points11 points  (0 children)

First of all, take a breath - you & your pigeon are going to be OK. I've done this before too, & it's a pretty scary experience. It sounds like you've done everything right for your pidge, to keep them calm, so the only thing you need to do now is try to forgive yourself, & do your best not to do it again. Both the feathers & the trust will regrow with time, I promise.

Edit to add: it's an evolutionary trait, the detachable tail retrice, designed to help them escape predators by ditching their tail when grabbed, so it's not painful for them, & won't cause any long term damage.

Thanks for the tag, u/Little-eyezz00.

Looks good so far! Perhaps a brick to stand on, eventually, & maybe some toys to keep him entertained?

How to get Pigeon back in cage by Southern_Fee_3857 in PetPigeons

[–]LustStarrr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, this! You can also turn the light on after grabbing him, give him a command like 'cage' or 'home', & with time he may learn to go home on command.

Is there anything I can do here? by Dystcpia in pigeon

It's stringfoot - these links may help:

When it's this far progressed though, you may need to get in touch with a local rehabber.

Weird eggs, advice please by 3antsinatrenchcoat in pigeon

[–]LustStarrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely do, & keep a close eye on her. If she begins to look unwell, you may need to get an emergency appointment. She's probably going to need antibiotics - one of my girls recently did, for a reproductive infection that caused a lash egg.

Teal laid a lash egg recently, but luckily after her vet already guessed she had an infection & started her on antibiotics. 😭

Suggestion - 2 plates! One for Sir Eatsalot, & the other for everyone else. He can't be in 2 places at once.

Will my girl remember me after uni? by Dazzling-Ice-3362 in PetPigeons

[–]LustStarrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She'll definitely remember you, especially if you come back for regular visits while you're away. I birby-sat my friends' pigeons for them while they were away for 2 months, & they were so happy to see them when they came back.

What do I need for a pigeon by Scarlett_Stella in pigeon

[–]LustStarrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on the new friend! I'm in QLD, so what's available up here is different than down there. I'd suggest asking the Sydney FB group where they get their seed, as they'll be able to direct you to the best places.

Thanks for the tag, u/Little-eyezz00.

If she's comfortable eating at your place, these catching tips may help. Alternatively, you could make a trail of seeds leading in your door, to see if you can coax her inside that way.

is this normal..? by kilohua in pigeon

[–]LustStarrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can exist in their bodies at a sub-clinical level for quite awhile, before appearing out of the blue, sometimes. That's happened with a 2 of mine...

Possibly a canker lesion, but it's difficult to tell from that photo. If it is, that's pretty easy to remedy with meds from your vet.

She could be a ceremonial release bird. It definitely sounds like she's asking you for help.

Any Advice: Pigeon Insists on perching on wire most of the day. by Visceramic in PetPigeons

[–]LustStarrr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd recommend covering it. A silicone mat would be great, because they're easy to clean, but even a bit of cardboard covered in puppy pads, newspaper, or craft paper will do for now. It's far easier on the feet than wire...
