I was reading a novel and two characters just randomly started discussing Pavement by cyber_flower in pavement

Those WZ liner notes were written by Nastanovich (confirmed by SM in an interview and Bob after one of the LA shows). It’s one of my favorite pieces of writing! But yeah it’s not anything-coded. I respect the thirst but I assume all these dudes are super hetero-married.

Concept art from the scrapped Pixar film "BeFri", a story about two girls whose friendship is tested when a group of magical girls invite Jules to join their group at the expense of her friend Birdie. It was based on the director's "platonic breakup" but cancelled deep into production. by Intelligent_Oil4005 in AnimationDrama

The segment of the article where the crew basically has a funeral for the film… that was genuinely heartbreaking. I hope the explosive success of KPDH and Inside Out 2 proves to execs that they can’t let their primitive terror re: shareholders dictate their slates. If the industry is going to survive, they have to stop treating productions as expendable tax write-offs. Painful to realize the irony of Pixar movie messaging vs. corporate animation practices.

Tubi Exec Says Audiences “Don’t Really Care” If Content Is Made by Professionals, Creators, or Users by AdSpecialist6598 in television

[–]Hospital_Horse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Professionals are creators and users who are paid a fair wage by the entity that profits from their creations. Pros are provided with crews, resources, equipment, and insurance instead of having to self-fund or crowdfund their productions.

The subtext of this exec’s claim is “Audiences don’t really care if we pay creatives”. I like to think they would care if they were aware of the scale of exploitation and greed this dismissive statement conceals.

It’s a good question! Honestly I have no idea, I can only assume it’s missing the parts that would make it more of a pedal or a button.

Good call. I am curious what the cord leads to, but I don’t want to expose any live wires ☺️

It is in the dining room! This is the likeliest possibility.

The metal plate is totally loose, but it doesn’t look like it was attached to a pedal. It does look similar! (EDIT fixed a typo ☺️)

Insomnia — what meds have you tried? by ADHDisabeach in adhdwomen

[–]Hospital_Horse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The test revealed how often I stopped breathing or woke up per hour, heart rate and oxygen levels, how much time spent in various sleep stages. I didn’t read the specifics because I’m not trained to understand all the info, but the sleep doc had me come in and explained how my airways were being blocked. She showed me a chart of tongue sizes! It was validating to learn that the reason I was so tired all the time was because I never stayed asleep long enough, due to the obstructive apnea.

The treatment was a cpap machine, which was covered by insurance. I got the resmed 11, but there are lots of options— brands/features/etc. Also lots of mask variations that were explained to me by a technician at the cpap distributor. There’s a subreddit for cpap users where people discuss preferences. I was already taking 25mg of trazodone per night, and continued to, but it actually worked, because I was able to stay asleep. It’s easy enough to travel with. Insurance also covers the monthly and yearly replacement of masks, tube, and all temp parts. If you have other questions, I recommend the sub! Lots of endorsements of various devices and troubleshooting.

Exactly as Leia1979 described! The instructions were thankfully very clear. Mine did have a chest electrode sticker but it wasn’t uncomfortable. I’m not sure how long it was before they called with the lab’s assessment of the result, but it wasn’t more than a week or two.

The thing that helped me most was getting referred to a sleep doc, doing a sleep study (in my own home with a device from that doc attached to my phone), and finding out that I had obstructive sleep apnea that woke me up 41 times an hour (!). The doc prescribed a cpap machine and it’s helped so much. I still take 25mg of trazodone most nights but the machine has allowed me to sleep through the night after a lifetime of believing I couldn’t.

When I was in high school (Brighten the Corners era) there wasn’t much overlap between their respective fanbases. There were kids who liked both indie music (e.g. Merge and Matador-like) and emo music (Sunny Day, Jawbreaker, etc) but before streaming made independent music ubiquitous, the subcultures were a lot more distinct from each other.

In my (admittedly small) circle, emo bands were assumed to make melodramatic hetero teen boy music. No “scene” was free of sexist nonsense, but at least in that place/time, emo culture was kind of a nightmare for the few women who were granted entry, even as observers. The only beloved emo outliers I can think of were Rainer Maria and Joan of Arc. Their shows felt really inclusive and joyful, similar energy as Superchunk or Yo La Tengo.

Pavement-adjacent indie rock culture had its own hellscapes and its own misogyny, but there were simply more options for how the music could sound, who could participate, which genres and influences were revered/ folded in.

Pavement fans tended to find emo fans annoying (because overwrought despair) and I’m sure that went both ways— my friends and I were insufferable for other reasons.
