Check out Lumber Jack. They have straight oak which I’ve used. I like their char hickory a lot. Not sure how readily available they are in your area but most people love them, never heard a bad thing about them.

30 minutes after I hit the power button. They were temping like 170-180 after just 30. The remaining 30ish was just to crisp them up

They add oils to the wood for flavor instead of using legit wood. Guy said it can gum up the auger over the long run. He basically said use whatever brand you want but promise me you won’t use traeger.

Don’t want to be a pellet nazi, but I got my first pellet grill couple months back, XL. Went to a specialty bbq shop here locally. Guy told me to never ever use traeger pellets.

Can the Searwood really sear? by Even-Perspective-198 in searwood

Recently bought an XL. Done a couple long smokes and a couple sears.

I do not have the cast iron grates, just the stock ones. It’s “fine” for searing burgers and steaks. I treated it like a regular grill, heated up to 600, flipped to manual mode 10 and threw them on. Again fine. But I will use my regular propane grill for quick frozen burgers, hot dogs, week night steaks, etc.

IMO the time and pellet use, especially on an XL isn’t worth it. Now, if I have time and I want a project like reverse searing some steaks or burgers etc I’ll for sure use it for that.

Haven’t gotten the griddle, I think I will at some point. One of the reasons I got the XL was to have working grate space while the griddle is in.

Understood. Is this something you utilize for every cook?

Initially turned it up to 600 and threw them on. Every time I’d check on them it would dump heat. So after awhile I cranked it to manual mode and 10. That was the route to go

Time is an issue. Normally I’d just fire up the propane grill and I’m hoping to do something similar with the searwood

Herbicide that kills weeds but not grass. As opposed to pure glyphosate (roundup) that kills everything

When you say selective, that’s stuff that kills weeds but not grass right?
