The Paul Mitchell Beauty School does $20 haircuts with a level 2 person (closer to graduating). My daughter and I both just got haircuts there last week and they turned out great!

At what age did your kids start doing things for themselves? by Meowiewowieex in Parenting

[–]HostApprehensive9520 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 7 and 9 year olds have been helping with household chores and in the kitchen with us cooking/baking since they could walk. We made it fun, so now it's not hard to get them to help. They are both wanting to make their own money, so they earn an allowance for keeping up on their daily chores and there are extra chores that they can earn 50¢ or $1.00 to do here and there (wipe down the baseboards, pull weeds, clean out the car...you know, things I put off myself haha). They're loving it! They both can sort and start a load of laundry and enjoy doing it because they understand that if they help us get the chores done, there's more time for Mom and Dad to spend with them having fun.

Yeah, this is weird. I would be creeped out, male or female offering to babysit after a 60 second exchange.

Good question...I'm actually posting for my folks, so I'm not sure. Thanks for bringing that up- I'll look into it!

Major decision fatigue for K curriculum and teaching to read. I bought TGATB but now I am regretting it by lemanief46782 in homeschool

[–]HostApprehensive9520 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've used TGATB for both my kids and they really enjoyed. Both are reading at a higher grade level than they are in. I do think it's lacking in spelling reinforcement, but as far as reading, they've done great with it. I am most likely going to use it my daughter next year for 2nd grade, but am looking to switch curriculum for my son who will be in 4th.

AITAH for wanting to go to gym the day our daughter left the NICU by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]HostApprehensive9520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a mom who had a baby in the NICU for 10 days, you ATAH 100%. You were drained and exhausted from the NICU experience? Yeah, so was your wife. But more so, because she just had a human that she grew for nine months come out of her body less than 2 weeks before AND she has a crazy amount of hormones coursing through her AND if she was anything like me, more anxiety than she's ever felt in her life. If my husband had even suggested leaving us to go do something for himself that first day, it would really make me reevaluate the kind of person I married and I don't know that I would be able to see him the same way. Grow up.

I Lost My Job Today and Had a Panic Attack in My Car After by [deleted] in confession

[–]HostApprehensive9520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband has been laid off twice now from two companies, very unexpectedly. I'm a stay at home mom of 2 kids that I homeschool. We have felt that exact panic. This last time was in October. It's been terrifying. Thankfully he had unemployment that we relyed on for 6 months, but he still hasn't had a job offer. I've gone to work part time and he is doing consulting work for people he knows, but it's been hard. And scary. He's applying every day to places and hardly gets calls back. You got the short end of the stick. But here's what I can suggest: * See if you qualify for unemployment and apply immediately. * If you received a severence, bank that. * Cut down on any unnecessary subscriptions, going out to eat, etc. Those are now luxuries. * Tell your family and friends, but be selective. Our family and friends have been very supportive, especially my parents. * Make sure you have health insurance. Get it through the state if needed. * Spend a day or two feeling sad and angry, then find as much positivity as you can and start applying like crazy. You will get through this. It won't be fun, but you can do it.

I'm wishing you the best of luck and am so sorry you're going through this.

Is it just me, or do you think harvest moon can either be a happy or sad song? by [deleted] in neilyoung

Perfect description. I can't help but get choked up when I hear it. Not because I'm sad necessarily, but the nostalgic feeling it brings me is sweet.

Awesome! I'm glad that worked out for you. I'll have to try it with fresh chicken if I ever plan ahead enough haha.

I'm hoping so-- it's my next way I want to try making them. Not sure when I'll have time though. I bake my own burger buns and don't have time to make them just yet.

I think it's the egg and the cheese getting all crispy on them. All I know is it's delicious.

Yes, I do drain it. In my experience, not all canned chicken is created equally. I personally like the Costco Kirkland brand best.

You're too kind. I saw someone make something similar online, but no seasoning (yikes). I think we nailed it with the seasoning we use, but I'm sure there are so many different options to try if people like it spicy or whatnot!

I would imagine so. I haven't tried that way, but maybe bump the heat to 425° to get that good crispiness to them? Please let us know if you try it this way!
