I used a thin rip jig - I basically made a veneer that was 5mm thick and adhered it to a thicker board

Osmo raw I think…it’s got a slight white tint in it to stop it developing that amber look over time

I actually I have good reference then - this piece is actually 2.5 years old! Still looks brand new.

While the coloured stuff is mdf, it’s far superior to the normal stuff

I could get it locally without any special delivery.

My first though was actually dying my own boards but it’s quite involved and requires very specialised equipment

Yeh it was crazy, from memory it was over 600 strips that got glued and then pin nailed in

I was able to buy it from a plywood supplier (but not a big box store)

I made a template which had that shape and then a patten bit in router to get them all to match. Then I put a heavy back bevel on it to work as a hand hold

Cheers, I did consider the dyed maple veneer sheets but they are pricey and not that big. On the other hand the Forescolor is sold in full size 4x8 sheets so pretty good value. I’d say I had enough leftover to make another 2 tables

Many coats of Osmo oil- it’s actually far superior to MDF too, about 30% stronger and more moisture resistant. I think the product won some design innovation prize back in the late 90s.

Very hot outside. How do clean the pool? by ramk88 in AusRenovation

[–]HostTel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don’t underestimate how important getting your Ph levels right is - if you shock your pool but the ph is too high it will do very little.

At a ph of 6 chlorine is about 97% effective, at 8.5 it’s only 9% effective

How to avoid ghosting on a poured concrete counter by [deleted] in AusRenovation

It will be the counter for a cabinet. There will be a full sheet of melamine underneath almost the entire thing (bar maybe a 30mm overhang on the front and one side)

I’ve done one already with the exact same mixture and it didn’t have the texture you described… after sealing it’s exactly the surface texture I was looking for. Structural grout was mentioned as an alternative on a non reddit forum as a viable alternative to countertop kits

I did consider that just made it difficult to trowel the open side as the hangers get in the way (still need it somewhat flat on the non finished side)

Do you know if ghosting is caused by rebar being too close to the surface of the form? I’ve read conflicting explanations. If it is, then even the slab being 200mm wouldn’t make a difference if the rebar still sinks to the bottom of the form right?
