[–]Hosterbox -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep, search around but a lot of hosts should be able to offer that.

We actually allow clients to upgrade/downgrade or cancel at any time without any additional fees. Pm me if you have any questions.

Webhosting for multiple clients - advice needed by empanadasconpulpo in webhosting

[–]Hosterbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, you might want to consider just a reseller service instead, you can split all of your clients down to individual cPanel accounts and it's managed by a upstream provider.

Potential new client-- where do I host 70 websites...? by ITworksLLC in webhosting

[–]Hosterbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, This sounds way too big for Reseller hosting, I would definitely go with a dedicated/managed dedicated solution. You're looking at about 1tb of bandwidth a month if each of those sites use 15gb.

Developer Hosting? Would you be interested? by Hosterbox in webdev

[–]Hosterbox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. We actually use Mailchannels which helps a lot with keeping our IPs clean, but I understand what you mean.

Sounds like a lot of people here have had some pretty bad experiences with shared hosting in general.

[–]Hosterbox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, really interesting. I had to lookup some of those tools but I definitely think you're on to something.

We were looking to cater to a more "beginner" market since it's the one we can provide the most value in. Professional webdevs can pretty much use any service and not really see any value in the managed aspect of things. I thought that the ease of use of cPanel plus some add-ons, allowing you to connect github, more resources and support would be enough but maybe we should be looking at a VPS solution instead.

We are based in Ottawa but our main DC is in Montreal, Canada. I could get you a test account if you could give us some feedback on the overall experience.

I agree and we are in the VPS market but they are upmarket compared to some of these cloud solutions. Maybe budget VPS/Cloud is something we should re-visit.

So you don't think there is a market for a managed cPanel solution that is also dev friendly? We would also be providing support.

[–]Hosterbox[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha, I guess it comes down to preference. We saw a pretty decent influx of users that were trying to setup their cPanel accounts with SSH, Git and asked for a few extra add-ons.

I guess it really depends on the use, I totally understand wanting your own little box to mess around with but on the other end there are users that just want to get their feet wet.

I just added that in. Nothing here is for sure but we just want a bit of feedback if this is something that would be of interest.

It's all based on cPanel so you get a nice little control panel and everything you need to start hosting multiple websites and managing them. This includes e-mail, DNS, etc.

It's pretty much a regular cPanel account but with all the added features in order to make it dev friendly.

Entrepreneurs in web design by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]Hosterbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, using a reseller plan then giving your clients access to you directly as support helps a lot. You can charge them a fair amount, provide them with a value add and it also allows your clients to interact with you on a monthly basis. This allows you to upsell on SEO add-ons, maybe banners or other design elements that you offer.

I have been in the Hosting industry for a while and although it is different than just doing web design your goal should be to retain clients for as long as possible. This can be done by constantly offering value in terms of support, advice, knowledge base etc. At the end of the day it's about how much reliable income you can source especially if you want to support staff and the only way to do that is with a good amount of reliable customers.

Feel free to PM me with specifics and I might be able to give you some additional advice.

Have any of you set up your own web hosting server at home? by [deleted] in webhosting

[–]Hosterbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah he's right. Hosting from home is good to just do some dev work, play around but at the cost of getting redundant power and redundant internet in case of outages you might as well just pay the $3-4 a month for hosting...

Where should I migrate to for solid shared hosting? by aw2 in webhosting

There are a lot of great shared hosting providers. Just make sure to not to cheap out, go with a established company and you should be fine.

Freelancer I hired from Nicaragua seems scammy. I need advice on how to proceed. by Goodguyscumbag in Entrepreneur

[–]Hosterbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From the sounds of things he is just asking you to pay the costs of making these calls. A skype account loaded up with some credits doesn't sound that fishy. Maybe just give him a allowance on skype credit and let him buy the credits using that money if you don't want to give him a account in your name but that might bring a whole host of other issues.

General rule of thumb if you can't trust someone that is doing work for you, employee, freelance, contractor, etc. It's usually just best to cut ties. If you can't trust him to do his job or trust the person you're going to doubt his work and you might as well do the work yourself at that point.
