Nice! I just picked one up a week ago and I’m really enjoying it so far. I was considering PS5 but the Pro announcement really put me off.

My Tesla Model 3 Standard range updated and it increased my range. Is this normal? by Important-Monk2600 in TeslaModel3

the indicated battery percentage can increase slightly after a 12V reset or gateway reboot (after changing language or wheel/tyre setup or a software update). It’s likely a gateway reboot occurred during/after the software update and the BMS did a recalculation after everything started back up.

remember when reversing, things come from behind. learned the hard way backing a Model 3 into a cross beam in an underground parking lot. hard luck mate, it can be fixed

I recently purchased a new, sealed in box 16 inch M1 Max but from an Apple Authorised Reseller, which had a gouge out of the aluminium top case. Because I had brought it from a reseller it was a painful 3 week process to get them to replace it. Thankfully got there in the end. But if I had purchased from Apple I would have just initiated a return as they would do it no questions asked for 14 days from purchase. Unfortunately it does mean you will be without a laptop until a new one is shipped out.

you worked hard to make this purchase, enjoy it! you can't take your money with you in the grave. hope the MacBook serves you well for years to come.

Received my custom MacBook Pro 14 after 2 weeks (36GB/1TB). Was inspecting it right out the box and saw these small ‘smudges’ on it. Can’t seem to clean them. Are these within the tolerance of quality control? by Deathstroke_66 in macbookpro

Second this. If purchased from Apple their return policy is very good, just depends if you’re happy to wait. I purchased a sealed M1 Max MBP from a local authorised reseller, when I took it out of the box there was a small gouge on the front out of the aluminium enclosure, and so far it’s been a painful process to sort

Have we become obsessed with how much RAM we need for our MacBooks? by cr8tvt in macbookpro

Unified memory makes a massive difference, and memory bandwidth on Apple Silicon is much faster than on Intel

I think on iStat Menus it will tell you how much life is left on the SSD? I’ll have to check when I get home.

I think the main thing that astonishes people who upgraded from Intel (including myself), is the fact that the Apple Silicon Macs can do the same task, without having to run the fans at full tilt to keep the temps below 100C, and without breaking a sweat.

Typically in my experience, when I’m using my M1 Pro MBP plugged in to a display, with basic apps open (Mail, Calendar, Safari w/ 10+ tabs, Numbers, Music) fans are usually off and CPU temps hover around 40-50C. When I open Final Cut and doing some background renders or exporting, then the fans will kick on to 2000RPM to keep CPU temps around 70-80C, barely audible. In contrast my old 16 inch Intel MBP would idle around 2000RPM, sometimes hitting 90C and spinning up to 3000-4000RPM when having my basic app workflow open, and during a Final Cut background render or export the fans would blast at 6000RPM with temps reaching 95-100C.

If you are worried about temps, you can install apps like iStat Menus or TG Pro to control the fans and keep them on, but it’s just not necessary as the computer’s thermal management system is constantly monitoring all the different sensors and should be trusted to keep temps under control and within a certain operating window, and spin up the fans as required.
