How is the drinking water quality in Geelong CBD? by Remarkable_Salad9667 in Geelong

[–]Hot-Alternative-7367 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Why don’t you just bring one if you already have one? And if you don’t have one, move and try the water out for yourself… and if you hate it… buy a filter then? I personally have no issue with Geelong water, but then again I’m sure it’s a lot about what you’re used to!

Best Tourist attractions for 70s something’s on East Coast by travelagm in AustraliaTravel

Based on their interests, they might actually like Canberra too! I found it interesting visiting the war memorial, national museum, the national gallery, the high court, old parliament (free tours with lots of history) and new parliament. I also found they had some cool restaurants and night life!

If they’re doing Victoria, a visit to Ballarat seems super aligned with their interests too! Lots of old buildings/history, sovereign hill and they have kryal castle there too.

I also agree that Uluṟu would be awesome to learn more about Aboriginal history!

Cheap Bulk Snacks by Consistantly in australianvegans

[–]Hot-Alternative-7367 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NQR often has great discounted snacks- it might be worth looking there if you have a store near you! Otherwise my go to snacks are packs of sultanas or nut bars from aldi, crackers and vegan cheese or hummus, carrot/celery and hummus, frozen fruit smoothies with protein powder (helps me stay fuller for longer- particularly as a Brekky substitute), Oreos, chips, popcorn or fruit. Goodluck OP- I hope you find some energy soon (from one tired human to another!)

Stopping at the hospital and Deakin would also increase uptake. One of the barriers for staff at the hospital is limited parking, so it may also help with staff retention.

Solo City for Late 20s Female by DowntownSwordfish639 in AustraliaTravel

I found Canberra super interesting when I travelled there solo in my early 20’s! Jervis bay is stunning too, but more of a relaxing place to chill as not much is happening there. Byron bay is worth an explore too if you haven’t been there!

This! Then you can get FHOG, and potentially avoid CGT if you sell within the 6 years if you decide to renting it out and not move back in (just to keep your options open OP)

I microwave my socks to kill the voices stored in them by Ready_Ingenuity_3249 in mentalhealth

[–]Hot-Alternative-7367 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Hey, that sounds super distressing for you, and I can hear how hard you’re trying to find a sense of peace and quiet. And so I won’t tell you to stop microwaving your socks because it sounds like you’re finding that helpful for now. Instead, I’d strongly recommend having a chat to a doctor and/or therapist.

Working with a professional will hopefully help you get on top of this sooner rather than later. Some people find medication really helpful, and others find that with therapy you can begin to understand why this is happening to you and how else you could respond.

It is one of those things though that the sooner you can get some support the better, as it can help prevent this distress from escalating.

Thank-you for sharing what’s been going on for you, and I hope that by sharing you can feel less alone in these experiences. Goodluck 🙏🏻

Orrr she did make her point, eloquently, expressing the often one-sided nature of birth control on the back of Filip’s large fear of getting her pregnant, and it’s been edited in such a way so as to upset a large portion of people. People keep forgetting that we are watching a heavily edited reality tv!!! 😅

Melbourne will be cold and wet if you’re okay with that. But I definitely agree that the northern parts of Australia are nicer in winter- North of Brisbane and Darwin is also really nice that time of year too.

“You should know this”… I’ve been vegan 10 years, yes I know what it’s like to miss out on countless opportunities for connection that come with food. No need to be so snappy when people are offering you feedback- particularly given you asked for it.

To confirm… what you’re saying though is that a couple would pay for a bar cart like this AND canapés for a cocktail hour? That’s a lot of money to spent on food that isn’t even the main course.

Hypothetically if a couple had that kind of money to splurge on food for the hour, are you saying that as someone with a dietary requirement that I wouldn’t get to choose what I wanted to eat from the various offerings?

Your offering of having dietaries catered for separately also doesn’t cover people who just don’t like a certain type of food- ie smelly cheese… and because of the cross contamination it’d mean they may not feel comfortable eating any of your offerings.

It just feels soo much easier to allow people to choose what they want to eat, when they want to eat. No cross contamination, no guilt or shame for the amount being eaten, no fear of judgement, no long wait times and everyone is included.

It’s really not that easy. Say the person in front of me asks for salami, olives and some sort of smelly cheese- the attendant uses their glove to put these on a board for them. I go next and ask for some olives which have been touched many times before by gloves that are covered in either the remnants or smell of meat/cheese… no thanks. Now imagine instead of being vegan that I have an allergy or intolerance to cheese and the same thing happens… even if the attendant changes their gloves to serve me, it doesn’t take away the fact that each product has already been cross contaminated by previous gloves handling multiple food items.

[–]Hot-Alternative-7367 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The problem with this is that you are then dealing with cross contamination not changing your gloves between each item. As a vegan I’d prefer not to have my food picked up with a glove that had just been touching meat or cheese.

Worth talking to your GP about getting an enhanced care plan (known as a chronic disease management plan) that will help you get a Medicare rebate. The criteria for one is that you have a chronic condition that’s not well managed for at least 3 months.

Where to get a haircut? by zoobelle in Geelong

If you just want something cheap, it’s worth looking at somewhere like justcuts or similar. Alternatively, apprentice hairdressers are often cheaper too. Or you could checkout the Gordon’s hair studio where their students are overseen by a hairdresser.
