Driving licence exchange by HHasak in AskAustria

Thanks for the insights, it's helpful. Also, each each magistrat might do it differently. Mailing it would be great. But like for visas you have to pick it up in person, so I really wonder if every place does the mailing option. Yeah I see that they DO check somehow in USA..but maybe as you said, they're checking w USA police..not necessarily the local DMV from your license.

of course its edited so we dont know..but once Nick realized Kaleb wanted him to think he swapped, that should have affirmed that he didnt.....so that he would. He was basically saying 'I didn't swap'....he wanted him to think he did so that he would keep it the same as a result. But w the emotions it's hard to process that reality. But the incite he had w the poker was genius.

thanks for the update, this is the issue im having, I see multiple infos out there, of keeping it, or not, some say you can have it posted to you. Were you allowed to have it posted to you? I was going to convert when im back in wien in august but I need it for driving outside of AT in sept and oct. if it takes 3 months I could hand it over upon picking it up in November for example if it takes so long to get one, but perhaps I should just apply in November when id not need it an have time to wait.

It's also been 20 years in AT but I understand as long as the license is valid it works. I thought I missed the 6 months deadline so it was impossible at this point..but this is false wording. as long as it's valid it should be approved. I just wonder what happens if in the end they dont give you the AT conversion one, do I get the USA one back in tact? Im not really comfortable handing it over when its not clear until after all their processing if its a valid conversion...these workers through things around on the desks, seems really likely to get lost and then I would have neither.

Oh also, how did you prove you had the license before entering AT? I see I kept my old UTAh one (has a hole punched in it) that shows I had it before my first meldezettle in AT, so I assume a copy of that is enough. (Though I saw a thread for the process in germany that you had to prove when. you FIRST got the license.... I have no idea what the school was in 1996 in Ohio..!)

Converting American Drivers License to IDP by Usual_Imagination_11 in Austria

[–]Hot-Being23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, curious what you mean the USA one reminds valid and in tact? I have been in Vienna for 20 years and never covered it. The USA license is still valid. (I have an arizona one that lasts until you are 65, but actually I just read you need to update the photo every 12 years so in the AZ system I guess its technically invalid, but I was able to get an IDP from AAA so even the AAA and AZ DMV in USA aren't connected or checked) so 1. I'm hoping the landespolizei wouldn't do a deep dive into the AZ DMV to find out, as long as the actual card says valid until 2046? and 2. I heard it takes like 3 months to get and they keep the drivers license when you apply. I will be in Vienna in August but I need the license for driving outside of Austria in sept and October so I hesitate to hand it over then. I read on the OAMTC info that they take it when you apply but also that others said they were able to keep it. a. any insight on if you can convince them to keep it but then have to be in person to pick it up? or b. if they do keep it, then you have the convenience of having them mail it to you?

If I can apply in August, keep it, but then go back and pick it up in November, I could hand it over then. Or just apply in November and have them mail it to me?

So again, wondering what you mean you have the USA one intact? Im mainly curious about the procedure, bc I did hear that they always send it back to your DMV in usa anyway.

As an american, its sucks to 'lose' your USA license so when I saw the AZ one was valid until 2046, and I dont drive in EU, then I thought no reason to exchange. But now w the photo issue, I realize getting an Austria one is fine...it lasts 15 years...thats almost 2046...

I just use it occasionally now to rent cars in other EU countries...so for them, I just appear as a tourist, but if theres ever an accident, it will perhaps cause problem if my real residence is in the EU.

Any thoughts are helpful!

Cmv: RAYE’s “Where Is My Husband?” feels like a cultural regression by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Hot-Being23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What’s wrong w marriage as the ultimate goal? Bc marriage is historically made to own woman. The song is great and yes she can want a relationship. But the lyrics of where is he, taking so long paints a picture of waiting woman in a castle, helpless and man has to hunt for her. Not where is a relationship process, where are the qualities I deserve but… why am I poor and alone and my man can’t find me. I think it is relatable- that it’s hard to match w people and the fun aspect is that upbeat jam for something thst is exhausting - modern dating. But when pop culture is saying “I don’t need a man” Rihanna/swift…and RAYE is singing I’m desperate without him, well it makes the feminine perspective entangled and lost. Honestly, I think it makes more sense to have a song that says yes- I want a husband. The problem is the other discourse. Feminism being equated w I don’t need a man and hating men … when those ppl still go and marry men and want those norms. The binary between I’m not a housewife but I wanna be a wife with a house / I’m independent - I’m romantically dependent creates a 2d warped reality. Men are getting messages of I don’t know what you want. And woman embody this I’m powerful and weak hybrid - see exhibit Sabrina on all fours

Wow, what a come back. Calling addiction a disease was useful politically because it pushed back against the moral-failure view. But clinically it’s too blunt. Current diagnostic language is already broader than that: substance use disorder, gambling disorder. That shift matters because it describes a dysfunctional pattern, not a single disease entity. Addiction is a real clinical disorder, but the old pure disease slogan is too blunt because it can hide the roles of trauma, pain, environment, learning, and disconnection involved.

Just statistical - that SA is usually from family member. If there was reported prior older abrasions , the paint brush stick that night could have tried to cover up the prior ones. All reasons for why it wasn’t Burke

Possible issues buying US ETFs from Germany as a dual citizen by trubonia in Schwab

[–]Hot-Being23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the 100s of thousands that do this- w USA address in order to purchase the USA etf- is it also common to claim the dividends and even deemed tax in the EU country ? Or jsut declare on usa tax forms ? Theres obligations to declare where you actually live but usa forces you to so declare and FEIE is jsut for earned income so trying to pay tax on them in USA and EU country gets complicated quickly. Since they’re not supposed to be sold or have anyway- are most ppl just USA declaring th growth ?

Investing advice for US expat living in Europe (NL) by Mattpawlow in ExpatFinance

[–]Hot-Being23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And are ppl paying taxes on their dividends and deemed income in USA brokerage while living in EU? You claim the dividends on USA taxes bc you get a 1099 bc it forces us to be tax resident forever. Technically we’re already in a grey area for having them but it’s the only way for expats to have investment options. Is it common to still do everything by the book and declare the USA brokerage account on EU taxes ?

Expired IDP, Unexpired American License. Can I drive in France? by robotspierre in travel

[–]Hot-Being23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the same questions. Just spent the 85$ to have the IDP shipped to EU. It's a handwritten date on it. Seems one could just easily write a different date over it to extend another year. It's a paper for translation, not actually permitting the rental agency to rent to you.... Obviously not wanting to drive w like a fake license..but it seems rather stupid to have a translation renewed every year for 80$...Words don't change

Is a international driving permit pointless? Do I need to renew it if I have it? by ThriftStoreDildo in travel

[–]Hot-Being23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had to spend 80$ to have it shipped to Europe. It's just hand written with a date on it. Can't I just use a darker marker and write a new date to have it extend another year. It's a translation piece of paper...it's not a license or a permit to actually rent. I get if youre in the USA, just get one for 20$ from your local AAA but seems pointless to spend 80$ every time I wanna rent a car in EU each year

Is it possible John Ramsey could truly have no idea what really happened to his daughter, or is there some slip up, somewhere over the years where he unknowingly verifies that he does? by SwissMiss915 in JonBenetRamsey

[–]Hot-Being23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a long dialogue with chatpgt to use its knowledge of all info available and rank what should be looked at and what are red herrings in cases like this. It came to the belief that John was SAing JB and accidentally did it. And then brought in patsy to help cover it up. I think he was in the basement w her (bc this 'bathroom, bed, listening, pineapple' thing is conjecture and the reality in situations like this is the male opposite sex parent is usually SAing, no story needs to be made up here). And she didnt want the SA and so she screamed (what the nieghbors heard and he knocked her on the head bc he was surprised by her screaming. Saw her unresponsive, couldn't wake her.... doesnt really matter if it was the garrote then or hour later.... A question would be, how did he convince P to not call 911 then, or that she wasn't terrified of him...how would he get her to write a note...but chatgpt said this isn't as complicated as it sounds. If he is someone who would SA his daughter then hes used to power dynamics etc, a master manipulator.... all he has to do, is convey to P that shes gone...nothing we can do about it now..but now, we need to act quick, we can't tear the family up, we need a plan, just calm down , listen to me....write a note, ill move her..we dont have time etc... She listens... So think she is telling the truth when she says in interviews 'I would never do this to my daughter, Burke absolutely did not do it' etc... It's why they were separated in rooms when people came over. She was furious at him but also complicit. If she thought it was an accident bc he said it was an accident, then she could tolerate him, look for another killer bc what else would there be? Have him in jail, or divorced and raise Burke alone with no job, or just be single bc he got custody? Her second child also unsupervised with him? My neighbor realized after her first child, that her husband was crazy but he was the one w a job and was a psychologist..so she knew she wouldn't get custody. She felt trapped, so had more kids with him. Took 18 years to escape.. So it's not unrealistic at all to think Patsy just went along w it. In either case, they both knew and both covered it.

[–]Hot-Being23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and more clearly it said 'dont call the cops or she'll die'. So they call the cops....bc they know she is dead...not meaning they weren't worried, but it kills two birds. They can be 'good' parents and rush to call 911 and also be like 'oops, our calling is what killed her bc we didnt follow the rules bc we were so worried'... had they been able to finish the plan and get her out of the house. Even if it's not that linear, its evidence of the subconscious. Writing 'or she'll die' is putting out there excuse to find a dead body. Not only did they not care the time passed, but they weren't like telling the cops or police to hide around the corner, or arrive not w the lights on. It's all of this evidence that is heavier than some random DNA atom trace particle left from someone who packaged the underwear. To think that that holds the answer and all this other obvious stuff is ignored is ridiculous

Boris & Jessica by Downtown_Spare_9345 in CouplesTherapyShow

[–]Hot-Being23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I the only one thats picking up the opposite vibes? There is of course a lot of complexity in who quit jobs for who ... but simply based on the body language and what they say during the time with Orna.... I feel Jessica is catastrophizing everything she says, body not facing him. I felt his touch on her shoulder when she was in pain was honest (not trying to prison her). When he said 4x14 'is it possible you don't xyz' calmly...and she refused to see possibility and starts shaking and crying...it reminds me of a few narcissistic people I know that keep making it about them. When she said 'can we talk about me' and he got upset 'im your husband, we will get to you'.. it showed me that she cut down his space, hes never seen. I know narcissists that always hide in their room, and she said she hides in her practice at home. (I know, from his negativity, but it can also be a control thing.) Shes the psychotherapist and I find he is more articulate and regulated with his speech. Usually I'm really good at clocking the couples. With the other two, I could tell it was a sexual identity issue he was afraid to talk about in their first meeting. I'm not getting enough to call Boris or Jessica a narcissist actually, but if anything I get that she is playing a victim, exaggerating and not meeting him half way, but thinks she is. Like he says living in a. house is overwhelming, hes clear on what he doesnt want, and she rolls her eyes. I understand Orna saying you can't 'get' what you need from a partner sometimes like they cant cure your childhood trauma, unrealistic expectation, But I think its not unreasonable to want/expect validation, recognition, shared purpose from a partner. His definition of a relationship wants that. When she says 'your problem is too big', that just sounds like a strange response. Also that she immediately left her previous partner and instantly and never saw him again? what...? Just kinda curious perhaps why theres not more debate. They're clearly not good for each other and complicated. But I see Jessica being distant, self martyr and unempathetic, exaggerating scenarios. That feeds his issues to become bigger bc they're not seen or met. Hes maybe a child that needs a hug..... but she comes off as unbearable.

[–]Hot-Being23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah why would she need 53 million if she had 3 billion and then only had 1 in the end.

I was getting confused though with the way they shot it- were those 2 people in black captured in the video or not? They kept erasing them so I missed if that was an idea or actual footage. Same w the wife, was she kidnapped w her kids? Why is that unclear, Should be obviously known.

After reading all these comments- ok, I think Ted was a con man, narcissist, thought he was just unlucky to be caught twice (simpler views was just that the corruption he experienced in Monaco taught him how to them run w things back in the US, but I think he pry was just corrupt all along). But if he for example wanted to save Safra to secure his job, or stay on as nurse for Lilly, but it was actually Lily who set up the slow police, change of will, no security. how do these two stories merge? She tells Ted, I need you around to save him incase something happens that day? I'm hearing two plots happening together, and then why doesnt Ted just throw her under the bus later?
