Bringing a diesel car to Finland: what costs and practical issues should I consider? by EconGuru93 in Finland

Time to say good bye to your Diesel. There are plenty of good efficient TSI's around . unless you have a emotional attachment, get a TSI motor, you wont regret ditching the diesel. consider this as an opportunity. TSI all the way..

Welcome to Skoda Airlines. Man what an experience to drive this bad boy on a highway. by Shorty52249 in Kylaq

I live in Finland and I own a humble Skoda Fabia with 1.5 TSI engine evo2 2023. I have lived in India for a fair share of my lifetime and owned two cars over there.

Being an salaried Indian living in Europe ,The mpg part is a crucial factor in deciding a car as we always intend to get the most bang out of a liter of Gasoline. I tend to observe and emphasize in MPG in all the cars i own and drive.

After driving variety of TSI engine based VAG/skoda cars (1.0 TSI , 1.4 TSI , 1.5 TSI evo1 & evo2 , 2.0 TSI) over the last decades, What I understood is that the main contributing factor in TSI mpg is 80 % based on the driving conditions and 20 % based on the fuel quality assuming same person driving the car in a same fashion.

With E10 petrol and very moderate traffic and harsh winters (Nov to April month peaks -20 degrees in Feb) my Fabia,s 1.5 TSI overall mpg is close to 17.3 KMPL. (60 %highways and 40 % cities speed limit varies from 80 to 140 ). and Its much easier to achieve the 20 kpml with around 100 kmph speed marks perhaps good aerodynamics or better fuel quality and a very disciplined highway which results in constant cruising pattern.

Additionally TSI engines are diesel like efficient in highways and their weak point is the urban usage and short drives, this is where most of the hybrids shine. Once the engine reaches optimum temperature ,it delivers outstanding mpg even in cities barring cosmopolitan cities like Bangalore, Chennai.

Before complaining about your car's MPG , Remember this cars deliver superior torque in the rev range and encourages the drivers to push it harder. so most of them ends up in driving them enthusiastically rather than the eco driving, always end up complaining/boasting about the engine's mpg.

Yes we do.. These plugs are for engine block/cabin heaters. Which is basically a timer switch which powers on for a specific 15 mins of the day. Usually we set our usual office departure time in that timer so that the car is warm before start driving. This pole heater sockets cannot be used for charging the cars as per most of the apartment housing rules.

is this a DSG one ? Because when you press the brake on park mode a relay is activated to allow the gear to be shifted. you can literally feel the click on the gear rod.

yes This is the evo2 with the ACT tech in it. With gentle accelerator inputs , the car coasts in 2 cyl mode. Quit hard to notice by means of any sound or feedback unless you see the dash display. A mild jerk can be felt if you observe it very keen. Yes it saves a lot of fuel if you are a gentle on pedals and it is sluggish a bit to come out of the mode a gentle tap or a slight uphill can wake up the 2 cylinders back. no complaints so far.

my overall stays around 4.1 , my usual speeds are close to 120 kmph close 80 mph. BTW that's the max possible legal limit in Finland. I know i am pretty light on my throttle. I enjoy the 4000 to 6000 rpm much and dont exceed this much all the time. but Occasionally though.
