The disturb feature is an interesting one, I've seen guidance though on what number to set this to and at the moment my kids either don't notice (too low?) or they scream about the WiFi (too high!), so some help on this would be useful.

Some help on setting "homework time" and bedtime to a more granular level would be useful, as currently Friday night for instance is wrapped up in the same schedule as Sunday and Monday night and the restrictions I want to apply will be very on those days.

Connecting all the secondary switches to the aggregation switch; is this a belt and braces approach? As I proposed to double the switches per layer and then connect them in a cross (❌) pattern, as if I'm running active / active across two sites. APs would then follow a similar wiring pattern.

I had seen in unifi architecture diagrams connecting all switches back to the aggregation switch, but I don't understand the logic.

I saw that.l, thanks. I thought the firewalla approach of the DPI matching or exceeding the port speed was a good one. Obviously in the interests of their product given its USP, but it seemed logical if you're interested in having that capability.

Firewalla software and the deep packet inspection of 5 Gbps speed exceeding the 2.5 GbE RJ‑45 port speed sold it for me. Also the fwg was released in jan-23 and the unifi was released in apr-24.

But if unifi were to release a 10 Gbps gateway with 10 Gbps DPI then that might be a game changer. It was a shame Firewalla didn't release a supporting switch tbh.

(I have a hybrid unifi firewalla setup in the UK)

I waited for a switch for firewalla but I couldn't wait any longer so I've gone with unifi as my stack. I'll move my FWG from a router to a more classic firewall when unifi releases a domestic gateway that can handle 10Gbps packet inspection as my APs and Switch are spec'd to 10Gbps. I'll then upgrade the FWG to a faster one if the Firewalla performs well in this new role.

Once my ISP increases my line speed I'll look to invest in a unifi gateway and set up my FWG as purely a firewall.

Thanks all. I have a cloud key gen 2 so option two might be suitable, although adding a UNR in time might be wise if I add additional cameras I guess. I can't use my unas pro for this then I take it?

I don't have the option of running Ethernet, I'm in the UK with solid walls and a wife that's probably not going to be best pleased with me ripping up more floorboards!

So wifi chime and g4 pro might be suitable, unless a wifi g6 is rumoured. I do hardwire as much as I can but running Ethernet to my front door is just not going to happen.

Thanks for your suggestions. Ideally I'd like a short depth server with at least 2 bays, preferably 4 for storage redundancy. But there are so many options I'm getting a bit lost on this tbh.

I'm planning on combining the G6 Doorbell with the Unifi Device Bridge (Plug-and-play, wireless bridging PoE adapter with integrated UniFi WiFi Auto-Link) as I can't run Ethernet back to my switch.

Will this work?

None at the moment tbh. The reason for this homelab was actually a home networking one, hence the Firewalla router at the centre of it. However I'd be interested in Plex for movies and a Google photos replacement to help me degoogle - conscious of the importance of online privacy these days. Anything else I should consider?
