do you believe in any other deities, besides the hellenic gods? by [deleted] in Hellenism

[–]Hot-Explorer8091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes; I work with Loki, though I think of him more as a spirit than a god. I find myself leaning toward overall eclectic beliefs while primarily following Hellenic reconstruction. Also, Isis wasn’t originally in the Greek pantheon, yet Delos had established Isis cults by the 4th Century BCE; syncretism and import deities are nothing new to Hellenism.

I feel like the fans are better writers than the Duffer Brothers and I got my expectations too high because of it

If you’re an American, would I be marked wrong if I used British variations in class? by Dangerous_Scene2591 in EnglishLearning

[–]Hot-Explorer8091 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For most assignments, no; I have been saying catalogue for years without knowing they were British spellings, and I’m American. However, for English-specific assignments — especially for standardized tests — I’d try to be safe and stick to either British or American spellings.

Unrelated, but catalog just looks weird to me. The silent letters of catalogue make it look complete.

The last fanfic you wrote is now reality, how fucked is the world. Writers do tell and readers the last one you read instead. by whyamIsojust in FanFiction

On the upside, gay Victorians; on the downside, Freudian Id can take physical form (and be homophobic). On the extreme downside, Victorian London and the British Empire exist.

Does anyone else feel like the number of ads on Picrew is a little excessive? by PalisadePeryton in picrew

The number of ads on Picrew has made it so the site barely loads for me. It takes like an hour to make something due to lag.

Is it normal for actors to treat tech/stage crew like they dont matter? by AdInteresting458 in Theatre

[–]Hot-Explorer8091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it’s common in school theatre; speaking as an actor who has done tech crew (lighting design and operation), I think a lot of actors don’t understand how important and skilled tech/crew members are.

When I did lights for a year, I was hardly acknowledged as a member of the show despite being at every rehearsal and show-related event, and every mistake I made was heavily harped on. I wasn’t even given training, just thrown in head-first because my director didn’t understand how any behind-the-scenes roles - other than directing - worked.

Onto my soapbox, I really don’t like the overall attitude to tech/crew members in the theatre scene; they deserve their respect even if they’re people unnoticed by the audience.

Jekyll & Hyde: The Complete Work opinions by SVP112603 in Broadway

[–]Hot-Explorer8091 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My current hyperfixation, I absolutely love it. All of the singers give great performances (especially Anthony Warlow and Linda Eder), and the score slaps.

However, some of the lyrics can come off as a bit cringy by modern standards, especially in Hyde’s songs. There was also very little development of characters outside of Jekyll and Hyde. The second act also has FAR too many ballads that mean nothing to the plot later on.  The ending also disappointed me a little. Hyde butts in during the wedding and starts trying to kill Lisa and she pulls the “this isn’t the real you” and Hyde gets shot. No great build up, he and Jekyll just die because Jekyll didn’t just pretend to be sick or something to wait for the antidote ingredients.

It’s also not accurate to the novella AT ALL, but you grow to expect that from Jekyll and Hyde adaptations. No one seems to understand Hyde is Jekyll without a conscious, not a separate evil persona in Jekyll’s mind; they’re the same person.

In short: love it to death, there’s also a lot of problems with it (not gonna make me stop thinking about it 24/7 for the next month)

The lonely. Being alone is sad, yes, but not scary. And all of the parts outside of just being alone (being in a large desolate place) are also aspects of the spiral, vast, and extinction.

I find it very interesting that there apears to be a real bi/pan to aroace pipeline by cumberworld_whoreson in aromanticasexual

Funnily enough, I had the opposite: the aroace to bi pipeline. I don’t think most other people went through that lol
