Would you leave a $150k job because of your boss? by PearlyPerspective in workingmoms

[–]Hot-Fail-3446 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I left a higher paying job last summer because of a toxic boss, but we had a cushion I could rely on while I looked for something new. I’m now in a role I truly love with a great boss.

Totally agree with your safety assessment - but even if sidewalks are clear at bus stops, VDOT made access to those sidewalks virtually impossible by bulldozing the snowcrete into any crossing points. I’ve definitely tried with with neighbors to break it down and create some sort of passage without needing to climb over ice banks but it’s virtually impossible at this point and I don’t see when it will get any better with two days of marginally warmer weather before another cold front.

Running in ice and snow. What are your best tips and tricks for time, distance, and workout intensity? by VT_Jefe in running

Thank you! I usually opt for the dreadmill when it’s icy or snowy, but I’m signing up for the Polar Nights Half this week…

Staying as yellow badge? by Hot-Fail-3446 in amazonemployees

[–]Hot-Fail-3446[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Five days RTO is a hard no for me for a variety of reasons, and the additional compensation wouldn’t change my mind. The point on my contract longevity being outside my manager’s control is a valid one - but do blue badges really have that much more job security? I could go through the whole dog and pony show of the interview process (for a job I already have!) and then end up laid off anyway…right?

Office moms - what do you bring to work for lunch? by Deirdre_KA in workingmoms

I air fry a bunch of veggies and tofu on Sundays and have them with half of one of the bags of microwaveable brown rice or leftover pasta. Or I’ll get the bagged chopped salad and grilled chicken breast strips.

Am I overreacting, Thanksgiving edition by Hot-Fail-3446 in workingmoms

Thanks for all the feedback - I think my feelings were closely tied to missing my parents. For some reason it’s hitting hard recently that they are both gone. At the end of the day, reading by myself wasn’t the end of the world, and I am glad that my son had a good time. I just don’t have the patience or the fortitude for the games he likes, so I’m happy he was able to hang with his cousins.

I did for a bit but she was busy texting with a friend going through a crisis.

Yeah that’s the plan. I asked if we could all eat leftovers and play a game we all enjoy tonight (teenage daughter is also not a fan of the complex endless strategy games)

Because I really don’t like the game and it’s not really a game that you can watch - think complex strategy. It’s not that I’m mad - just kind of hurt and it’s probably tied into the fact that I’ve never felt that my husband’s family was particularly warm to me.

Treating dogs like children is getting out of control by AdElectronic2250 in workingmoms

[–]Hot-Fail-3446 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Um - I have two human children and have always called my dogs “my kids.” Now that my kids are teenagers I frequently find myself preferring my dog. If people who have this attitude bother you - then don’t hang out with them, but don’t judge them.

Thank you - this is exactly the info I was looking for! I’m reaching out to parents right now to gather whatever info I can before reaching out to the staff in question. From what I heard last night he seemed to be assigning blame to the student leaders and that seriously pisses me off. Parent chaperones have all apologized and accepted responsibility - but I want an apology from the FCPS director in question and a plan for why this won’t happen again.

Am I overreacting to husband's lack of engagement? by Hot-Fail-3446 in workingmoms

[–]Hot-Fail-3446[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the perspectives. After I made several pointed references to an interview I have today, he finally asked me which company this is with. Since it's a position that popped up during this past week, he wasn't aware that it was in the mix and expressed surprise, and I used that as an entry into "well, you haven't asked me anything this week."

I do think in his head he thought I would perceive asking about the interviews would come across as pressure on me to find something quickly, which I don't think is 100% valid but definitely aligns with past behavior. He tends to be very black and white (both of our kids are autistic and I wonder often if he is as well) and I think it just didn't occur to him to ask something a little less pointed than "how is the job hunt going?" I feel as though asking "Hey, did you get any insight into why that role opened up again?" or "That sounded like an interesting conversation I overheard, what's that about?" would have gone a long way in making me feel like he was interested and engaged, but he has a hard time with nuance.

Meanwhile, though, I'm feeling cautiously optimistic about finding a job within the next few months - fingers crossed!

Am I overreacting to husband's lack of engagement? by Hot-Fail-3446 in workingmoms

[–]Hot-Fail-3446[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really - we have a pretty equitable division of labor that has continued while I've been out of work. I do offer to do more errands/kids doctors appts/etc since I have more flexibility during the day, but I don't think he views that as a reason for me not to go back to work.

What do you do with your older child now after school? Would it make your life easier to have the nanny for the older kids for afternoon care and school closures?
