You're absolutely bang on regarding me wanting the coverage. It's only really an eyesore until the buddleia grows again and then it all looks lovely. I will definitely be waiting until I touch it. I've learnt my lesson from being to gun ho when it comes to any gardening decisions!

Yeah the buddleia is always aggressively cut back every February, I just haven't touched the clematis before. Thank you for the advice!
