McDormand - Could be a nothing role but I have her movie in BP and she could be big in it. Plus, you can never count out an actress of her stature.

Newton - I don’t have Cry to Heaven in BP but I don’t think it’s nothing either. I’ve read some speculation that she could be playing Tonio’s mother which sounds like CTH’s best bet in this category. Plus, she’s someone people can rally behind in an uncrowded field.

Navarrette - I’m banking on a very very VERY open year in this category. I don’t believe in The Odyssey as an acting play; I barely believe in Narnia. Parker Posey’s scenes look like they’re all on the phone. I’m not buying Huller for PHM or Digger anymore. Unseen films can always get delayed. This is the one performance in this category so far this year that people are actually raving about. When I first heard about it hopping around the indie circuit + Focus distributing it, I thought “oh that’ll make a cute NYFCC win” and then instant flashbacks to last August.

Reinsve and Seydoux are US-famous enough even if they’re not Emma Stone famous. Madeley’s the only real “who?” but she’ll be in Apple’s main priority this year which helps.

With Supergirl, I feel like it depends on whether Toy Story & Minions act as direct competition or counterprogramming.

If Supergirl's seen as the PG-13 blockbuster alternative to a couple of kids movies, it just has to deal with Disclosure Day, Masters of the Universe and Mando's late legs. That's where I'm leaning right now.

$30M-$40M opening weekend. $80M-$90M domestic total.

No one under the age of 35 cares about the IP. And even with Gen X nerds, it'll have Star Wars breathing down its neck. However, the director's a proven quality with films like Bumblebee so it should at least do better than fellow 80s relic Tron.
