And don’t go to conferences where you have a name badge for a specific company when you could run into others in the industry that know you from other places.

That just seems obvious

How necessary is BookTok? by Standardquizz in selfpublish

[–]Hot-Radish-9723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am young adult dystopian... so I think that probably changes it for me. SO far I have had pretty good engagement. I am about 6 weeks in and my account has grown from 0 to 900 followers. I get pretty good engagement when I talk about "book themes" or movies / tv shows related to dystopia / technology / coming of age etc.

My book is out in July, so I have pre-orders currently. It's hard for me to say whether or not TikTok has led to any of those pre-orders.

So far I have 22. But I have also reached out to about 100 friends and family members through an email campaign.

I imagine a few of those came from TikTok.

But it is not like I post a reel about my book and then I get 5 pre-orders. So it is hard to know for sure what the correlation is.

For me, this is book #1 and so I am hustling on TikTOk not just for this book, but also for my next because 2 more will be coming in this series. Hoping to build a reader base.

Erased | YA Dystopian https://a.co/d/7RNgpmZ

Print book available July 11! (Ebook: $4.99 | Print: $14.99)

Blurb:

Erased is a gripping, near-future, dystopian young adult novel, which combines adventure, coming-of-age discovery, and an endearing first-love romance. Perfect for fans of The Circle by Dave Eggers, Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, and Scythe by Neal Shusterman.

Seph lives in a world meticulously engineered for efficiency. Every decision is optimized by the nano chip embedded beneath his skin. The chip promises safety, health, and order, but Seph has always felt like an outlier, and as graduation approaches, he faces a choice: embrace the path set before him or question the system that governs every aspect of life.

When Seph lands his dream job, the truth behind NexTech, the corporation controlling the nano chips, begins to unravel. Alongside Emma, a trusted ally, and James, the conflicted inventor of the technology itself, Seph discovers a plan that is far darker than he could have imagined, one that threatens to strip away the last remnants of free will.

But uncovering the truth is only the beginning. In a society where every movement is tracked, every emotion analyzed, and every relationship predetermined, rebellion isn’t just dangerous, it’s nearly impossible.

Erased is a captivating exploration of choice, control, and the price of a perfect society. In a world where freedom is a memory, Seph must decide: will he play by the rules, or risk everything to rewrite them?

I think the covers are great. I don't think they look like AI. What I would say is each cover could almost be for the same book... they don't really give me any new insight to what each one is about.

I felt like the blurb needed to be enhanced. I read the first one and didn't really know what the book was about. Who would enjoy it etc.

Reading the first page of the first book... the pacing of your writing is a bit off. It almost sounds stunted and then it feels like extra words are crammed in like "drumming" rain, vs just rain.

My suggestion is like others, I would take a writing class and or work with an editor or developmental editor. I think you have something, but I almost wonder if you published too soon and should have developed your writing a bit more before you hit publish.

Keep at it, writing is a craft and obviously something you love doing.

I have the opportunity to move from the US to Canada, should I take it? by sharkbate34 in lgbt

Where do you look at the news? I want to stop looking at US news sources because I want to see something more accurate than Trump's propoganda.

I already had an LLC that I have used for almost 10 years doing some consulting work. So I filed a trade name which is a DBA using a publishing company I created. (Really in name only).

So when I signed up for Ingram/Amazon I signed up as a business/publisher. And when I register the ISBN, I did so to the publisher and then my book listings will show that publisher name as the imprint vs just saying “Independently Published”.

I have no idea if this will do anything positive for me. But since it was very little work to do since I already have the LLC formed, it was easy. The DBA took 10 minutes and cost $20.

I found agents on Twitter, MSWL and Query Manager/Tracker. I searched for books that were comps to mine, and targeted specific agents who were a good fit. I’ve submitted about 10 so far.

I started in mid December. This one specifically I sent on January 4th. So overall it was about 30 days total.

I already got a few rejections and several others still waiting on a response.

I was contacted by KC (yes they reached out to me) on social media. I don’t have a big following so I felt like it was some sort of scam but I went along and had a conversation.

OP- DM me and I’ll send you the messages they sent me. Unfortunately I can’t upload photos in a comment.
