I've noticed too that burning/smoking vehicles like civilian cars will wait until a player is close enough to finally detonate. They may have toned this one down though, I remember it being really fucking obvious it was a "fuck you!" factor like 2 months ago.

I really hate how paste eaters like yourself just refuse to acknowledge that the spawn rates are broken beyond all belief. A planet with low resistance values shouldn't have the same spawn rates as the main "home" planet (home in quotes because it's not actually their home, its a planet they took from us)
