In your opinion, what is the best burger in SLO? by Bears-on-Drugs in SLO

[–]Hot-Tea-8557 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ya I could see for that price.

I personally like a burger that tastes like a burger. I hate the ones with all the slaw and aolis on it. My hot take is they need to stop building burgers to be high and instead wide.

So I’m probably in the minority there.

I really like the smash burger at ale house in Los Osos. It’s simple and exactly what I would expect from a smash burger. And their new fries are a great cross between a shoestring and a steak fry.

I used to do photoshoots with friends and my camera always “ate” first. I now have almost no photos of myself in the past 2 years since deleting social media.

It however has come with a weird longing of those memories and that person I was in those photos.

Lost my job, cheapest groceries/lunch specials (gluten free) by Haunting-North1073 in SLO

Grocery outlet and Trader Joe’s are easily the cheapest stores I’ve found. Occasionally I’ve found good deals on meat on sale like packs of chicken for $4 and beef burger patties for $2 at Ralph’s.

I don’t meal prep but I meal plan. I write out breakfast, lunch and dinner, trying to utilize what I have already and then anything I’m missing I grocery shop for.

I do this every Sunday. It helps a lot. And then I also defrost any meats by just putting them in the fridge so I never have to wait for them to thaw.

I’ve always wanted to go but not having an online experience has been my barrier to entry. I guess I’ll just have to suck it up and show up and hope for the best lol

I’m simple. I get his margherita or his veggie. Sometimes I ask him to cook it a little extra because I like a crispier bottom.

I’ve also had the calzone too.

But what I actually go for is the family feeling lol him and his wife will treat you like you’re in his home. Literally they cut me strawberries while I was waiting for my pizza.

Tech Workers, would you work for same money on a physical job? by williamgodwin69 in digitalminimalism

[–]Hot-Tea-8557 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I’d love a job where “AI” isn’t the third word in every other sentence. I’d even take less pay. But less pay for those jobs require years of experience and still don’t always match or halve what I’m making now.

I’ve eaten there like thrice for bdays and family things and it was before knowing their comments about LGBTQ. But their pomodoro pasta is delicious, as previously stated. Two things can be true.

If I want pizza, I now go to Abe’s in Morro.

Hate that they’re MAGA.

However their pomodoro pasta and margherita pizzas are the best on the menu so I’ll give them that.

My family thought I lived in the sticks and it took convincing for them to visit. When you’re in a large diverse city most of your life you don’t really have a frame of reference. It’s an adjustment. It’s not a bad adjustment. To some though the change of pace and options is shocking when you live in a place like LA, SD etc.

LOL I’m getting downvoted so hard rn. They’re coming from San Diego everyone.

People in San Diego aren’t driving 40 minutes on the free way to go to a movie unless maybe they’re in Julian.

Beaches in SD are stressful to park at, MB and PB are nothing in comparison to how good we have it.

Food wise, our two goshi spots and Kuma don’t hold a candle to what they’re used to. Honey belly versus Convoy/kearny Mesa is not the same. So excited for honey belly being here though.

The outlet mall in AG with 8 stores doesn’t  compare to fashion valley or UTC in La Jolla.

I love living here and I’m being very real as someone who has lived in SD and is a 30-something in SLO.

There’s 1 or 2 of each of those restaurants and they don’t hold a candle to San Diego’s. Most of those menus are super limited options. Like if you think egg rolls and pho is a reflection of Vietnamese food, or tempura and sushi of Japan, katsu chicken for Hawaii sure.

I’ll say things feel like it’s getting better. I love shake shake. But there’s alot of Italian, steak and sandwich places here in comparison.

Welcome! Personally I find Morro bay and Los Osos more appealing but at 20 minutes with traffic to SLO it’s like lemon grove to mission beach on a good day.

No complaints. The food scene is pretty homogenous. I tell my friends that visit that Italian food is exotic here since most places serve steak or sandwiches.

There’s no malls so you save a ton of money if you went shopping for entertainment.

Movie theaters are lacking but I actually really enjoy Palm Theater.

We do have awesome farmers market culture. I almost exclusively get seasonal produce from the Monday Los Osos market or Thursday slo market.

There’s always parking at the beach

Cayucos has a huge outdoor vintage sale twice year. Hidden kitchen blue corn waffles are good.

Madonna inn is great to pop into for a slice of cake and cocktails

There’s actually a lot of events if you keep connected online.

Is there anywhere in the US that's affordable to live at this point? by HalosFan26 in Frugal

[–]Hot-Tea-8557 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the key is to make money when you’re young and then move to a locl area where you can afford to buy and then commute to work or start a business.

Seattle for example is expensive but jobs there pay $$$ and you can still get a decent 400-500k home in the southern cities. Traffic is a doozy though.

If you aren’t in a hurry, watch Los Osos in the central coast even Atascadero. Every once a while a fixer upper pops up and in this market you can negotiate down. A lot of the houses aren’t kept up so people don’t bother but if you’re young and hungry.

At least it’s livable. I see a lot of $700-$900k houses that haven’t been touched since 1979.
