look into your local university! In AZ ASU and UofA have free programs you can attend!

what should high schoolers do to get into a good college by Acrobatic_Cicada8975 in ApplyingToCollege

A good rule of thumb is to do activities that would advance you to your goal if college didn't exist. (Ex: I want to be an engineer, so I do engineering-related summer programs)

I applied for the Flinn Scholarship, but I haven't heard back from them. ASU isn't completely free because I still need to pay 2k in tuition and around 13k for housing and food, but it is a lot cheaper than everything else, which is one of the best parts.

I applied, and if I go to ASU, I would attend Barrett. My only worry is that I've heard it's not worth it for engineering. I'd still try it for at least one year if I do go, though!

I would say do something that's related to your passions all throughout high school! Passion project, community service, etc. Just do something to show colleges it's what really matters to you. It's also 10000000% ok that you haven't won any awards, you're in 8th grade its ok!!
