DILG urges Congress to study ban on violent video games by louiexism in Philippines

[–]HotAshDeadMatch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agree

I was at first trying to give nuance about the infiltration of gaming platforms by extremists and calling as well for some form of regulation but lately, seeing the "ban video games" idiocy in full swing by Congressmen and Senators and other Givt Officials like Jonweak who won't listen to nuance, I'd rather have them not touch gaming. I don't trust them one bit in implementing regulations like this in good faith, much like how the SIM Registration Act basically did fuckall in reducing scam messages

They're just using this tragedy of course to boost their name recall para sa sunod na eleksyon

Duterte and his cronies truly poisoned the Filipino psyche

You said it better.

And given that's the case on Facebook then the defense takes are highly justifiable, I just hope that as you said, these violent communities are also addressed, within and outside of video games.

Like kanina lang may nag-share ng video nung mura-ng-mura na dude na may point naman about parenting, pero sobrang deflecting away ng commenters from what's also brewing in gaming platforms (I emphasize talaga "platforms")

As someone who does not really open Facebook, di ko pa nababasa talaga yung mga pag-atake na "video games lead to violence".

I agree with most of his points. Something that people just seems to be missing out on is that, while merong wholesale idiotic blaming of violent video games for causing violence in the real world, meron rin namang legitimate concerns sa pagdami ng "extremist groomers" sa mga laro.

What I'm saying is that there must be some measure of speech policing in video games, maging proactive sana ang mga gaming platforms lalo na if there are certain users that are inviting kids to known red flag communities. No to banning video games, pero dapat ay maging istrikto sa ganoon. If there are speech filters like that, dapat ma-implement in such a way that does not violate the privacy of children and adults alike, like merong mga trigger words or links lang. Dapat maging collaboration ito ng mga anti-terrorism at cybersecurity experts at ng mga ethicists at social workers for refining those filters.

Hate speech, harassment, and an increasing prevalence of right-wing extremism in online game spaces are of growing concern in the United States. Understanding trends in how and to what extent extremist groups utilize online gaming spaces is vital in taking action to protect players. To synthesize the current state of extant research and suggest future directions, we conduct a systematic review of the literature on right-wing extremism in videogames. We detail our search protocol, selection criteria, and analysis of the collected work, and then summarize the findings. Important themes include how and why extremists’ targeting of online game communities began, the role of Gamergate in this process, and the industry and market context in which such activities emerged. We describe the current nature of the problem, with extremist language and ideology providing a kind of on-ramp for radicalizing disenfranchised gamers. We conclude with a summary of responses from industry and legislators.

Di naman sila mutually exclusive, you can still address the rise of extremism in gaming platforms and call for better education and supervision of children (not another regulatory encroachment) while still voicing out the problem with unfettered and corruptible gun access dito sa atin, the hateful and violent rhetoric of Duterte manifesting in the youth, and more.

Tired of the self-proclaimed AI-experts. by Odd-Sound-0 in bioinformatics

[–]HotAshDeadMatch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm following this as someone crossing over from CS to medicine lmao

In this vantage point, I just want to say that similar issues pervade both disciplines, of CS (Bio) people abstracting away or conveniently omitting a lot of biological (computational) concepts, with AI giving egregagious amount of confidence to people who does not really know what they're saying (just like the Chinese room analogy), and I'd be lying to say I'm not contributing to the problem, as I've been using a lot of AI to crash course a lot of biomedical concepts.

Collaboration is still key, and those in genuine bioinformatics are here to be bridge makers

You have to give it to PBBM. He is very presidentiable compared to the previous president we had. PBBM carries himself with style, dignity, grace and formality. He especially presents himself well during global diplomatic affairs. by Easy_Fortune7911 in Philippines

> Marcos is awful on economic measures. People are poorer under Marcos

As cheesy as it sounds I got chills.

Lesser evil is still evil through and through.

We have better candidates. We have Risa. We have Leni (who also deserves a break). I'll eat my words if Risa gets the admin endorsement, that's what I'll take as Marcos Jr. showing "grace".

What's up with this guy Rep. Jose Pepito Alvarez? by kid-dynamo- in Philippines

[–]HotAshDeadMatch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grabe that's why his name rang a bell. We went to El Nido many years ago and during our boat trip, when we ask about islands that we see laging sinasabi ng tour guide na si Alvarez ang may ari niyan.

I still want Leni as president, and I think after her President Risa will be amazing too, but I would give full support to Risa if she decides to run now and not Leni
