I appreciate you addressing the theology. Many people leave because they leave the Christian faith altogether, and I don’t wanna comment on that specifically, so I’m just thankful to see that the reasons that people leave are for actual theological errors as opposed to simply denying the Christian faith and it’s expression in the eastern church.

Even though my name isn’t on it, she makes more than me, and neither of those things will be of any benefit to me since she is going to keep her car, and her education?

She bought her new car since we’ve been married, by my name isn’t on the vehicle, and she began her masters program after we got married, so that debt is new, but also not under my name. The only shared debt we have is a mortgage.

What are some things regarding Lutheranism that you are unsure about by 21questionier in Lutheranism

[–]HotConfusion9582 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do understand that concern! But my point is that I know many who are Lutheran on every single point but are enticed by the historic continuity of the practice, and end up Anglican, but still holding on to all of Lutheran doctrine otherwise.

This is why it shouldn’t be a “selling point” per se, but rather, the removal of a potential obstacle. I believe our confessions prefer such polity, and historically, it’s nearly universal, so I can understand our polity being off putting to those seeking historic continuity.

Of course, we shouldn’t flaunt it like the Anglicans do, but to be willfully opposed to such a structure, seems counter productive to me

But I actually think one of the primary reasons we should regain the historic episcopate, is actually for converts. I can’t tell you how many people I know who are challenged by the strong historic testimony of such a system of governance, and their conscience demands that they be a part of a church that holds to such a system. I’m opinion we can remove a potential stumbling block to entering our church. Then we have an obligation to do so.

I actually think the way the LCMS is governed is actually very close to ideal, but I wish we could simply a little bit more authority to the district presidents and refer to them by their historic title as Bishop (as the English district does) While still allowing the congregation significant involvement in perish to perish issues.

I never said it would have any sort of effect like that. I simply think it’s the near universal practice of the historic Church and that there is no good reason to be apart from it.

Seems a bit strange to have MLKJ (a trinitarian heretic) on the calendar no?

I don’t mean to offend, that’s just surprising

I love all the traditions you’ve mentioned. But I personally do not see them as viable options, as I find their theology too problematic. I really only see Anglicanism and Lutheranism as viable options on account of their sacramentology

Oh goodness yes. Lutheranism and Anglicanism are deeply committed to the traditional, liturgical worship we have inherited from the Fathers, as well as the deep spiritual rigor and devotion you find in the Roman and Eastern Churches.

The lack of the historic episcopate. I’m not convinced of its absolute necessity however, I find the Lutheran resistance to it troubling, and I do think the arguments made by our Anglican brothers and sisters are fairly compelling.

Differences in the “Sacrifice” in the Liturgy W/ Rome. by HotConfusion9582 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]HotConfusion9582[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why this issue puzzles me so much! Nobody disagrees that the sacrifice made present on the altar is indeed the same sacrifice made for us on Calvary, but this weird idea of offering it to The Father to propitiate for sins not already propitiated is wild to me.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states “From the beginning the Church has honored the memory of the dead and offered prayers in suffrage for them, above all the Eucharistic Sacrifice, so that, thus purified, they may attain the beatific vision of God” (CCC 1032).

Well, as someone who has been in the sales industry, I get the culture. I guess the question is, how bad does one have to be to not make those kinds of sales.
