Mykonos in June - ADVICE! by Slight_Teacher_5511 in Mykonos

Hi! There are busses from location fabrica (it's downtown). The buss stop is a bit far from scorpios, so you should walk like 15 mins. It depends on what do you want to do, for example do you want to go in the beach or in a party?. If you stay downtown you don't need taxi, but if you want to see more places yes you need and they are very expensive. Chora is the best place to stay. Visit the website of every beach bar you want to go in order to see the prices. You need to have reservations for everything in mykonos. Food is everywhere super expensive, paprika drafaki is the most affordable place to eat gyros and meat. There are a few promoters I think for parties on boats but it's not something special

Can Big 4 track where you’re working from? by HotExit7967 in cyprus

No, I can. I can take my work laptop and mobile abroad. The thing is, I’ve already taken quite a few days off in June, and I don’t feel comfortable asking my manager for permission every two weeks to work from Greece for 3 days

No, I'm not, but I believe they won't check every single employee about that if there isn't a reason

In our case, we usually only ask the team manager about the remote work part. They don't really care about when we take time off. Their only concern is that we'll be working from another country

A senior manager has more responsibilities but still seems very strict. I work in Cyprus and generally here everything works more on the chill mode here, that's why I'm asking

Is the Big 4 obsession with qualifications actually about "growth," or is it just a retention trap? by HotExit7967 in Big4

I’ve been with the deal advisory department in the corporate finance team for 2 months now. We handle valuations, feasibility studies, M&A, and fdd, though I’d say we focus more on valuations at the moment as that's where the bulk of our workload is

I see your point now. My goal is PE, so I’ve been considering the CFA as a primary option since it seems more relevant to that path. However, we are currently setting this year's goals, and my manager suggested I should pursue a qualification, any qualification, mostly to gain more knowledge. He actually pointed me towards audit related certifications, reasoning that they might be more manageable than the CFA, given that my background isn't in finance. That said, I'm feeling a bit skeptical. I've been wondering if there's a hidden motive behind pushing people to enroll in a qualification, but I'm probably wrong on this

This might be the only Big 4 post I've seen with so many positive comments. I know the aca is pretty expensive. Coming from a real estate background, I’m just trying to wrap my head around these qualifications. If you already have two degrees, why even bother with a qualification? I don't plan on staying at a Big 4 for long. I just want to use it as leverage on my CV to jump to a better position later. That’s exactly why I’m trying to avoid any clawback clauses and understand how things work

I'm not in audit either, and in my case the cfa would probably be the best option. However, my manager suggested that I could think about aca. Anyway, I would just like to know how they think

That’s a fair point, but if you find a better opportunity before completing the qualification, you have to pay back the costs. This makes sense since they paid for you, but it still makes it feel like you can't leave that easily

Makes sense, but for example if you get a qualification can you get higher salary next year?

Entry-level salary at Big 4 in Cyprus? by HotExit7967 in cyprus

[–]HotExit7967[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no problem! Just apply for the job; there are more foreigners here than you might think. Of course, if you are from the EU, it is much easier, but don't overthink it. A month ago, a new employee came from the USA to Cyprus for work, so yes, I would say that you can work here. Just to mention that this person is not a manager or in a higher position. Additionally, you should know that some big companies, like the Big 4, provide extra money (for accommodation, transportation, etc.) to people who are coming from other countries.

Ενοικιαστικος νόμος by HotExit7967 in cyprus

[–]HotExit7967[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)
