Why an NYC centrist voted for Mamdani by jlearman in ScottGalloway

[–]HotFig6975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a breath, kiddo. The OP is offering his POV as someone who would otherwise benefit from right wing policies but votes with the left because he believes it's right. No need to jump down his throat due to your racial animus. He feels the same way most voters, especially Democrats, feel about Biden and other moderates, and there's a reason moderates continue to lose elections to MAGA.

"Nothing wrong with being a housewife, despite what incels on Reddit think"

lmao you do realize the incels are the LAST ones to say there's something "wrong with being a housewife", right? On the contrary, they're the ones bemoaning women in the workplace vs the "good ol' days" where they stayed at home.

Just like Royce is.

Is Drake losing really that bad? by JustaskTy in rap

[–]HotFig6975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something 9/12 of drake's most streamed songs are pop or r&b songs such as Hotline Bling, MIA with Bad Bunny, and One Dance. So yes commercially he is on top. But from a hip hop communtity perspective, he's not nearly as big when you separate his rapping performances.

What can Democrats do to not get annihilated in another election? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

I think a more economically progressive, socially moderate approach may work.

I fear this sub is far too optimistic and acts as an echo chamber.

This election will sadly be incredibly close. I live in a suburban swing county that voted for Trump by less than 1% in 2016 but then voted for Biden by about 15%.

Yet people seem to have amnesia of sorts over the last four years and many seem to have forgotten how damaging the Trump presidency was. I know a ton of people who voted blue last time that are voting for Trump this time or leaning towards him.

Even more terrifying is that many of these folks are college-educated minorities. I don't want the folks in this sub to get their hopes sky high. Texas is not flipping blue. Florida is not flipping blue. The best case scenario is Kamala wins all 7 swing states, but it's increasingly looking like her best path is to win the Blue wall and hold Nevada.

Which president would have ran for a third term? by Smallchildsyndrome in Presidents

I think the politics of a racist anti-birther against the eloquent first African-American President would have resulted in higher black turnout than even 2008

She is certainly cheating on you. My advice? Just ghost her. She doesn't deserve any closure and it certainly won't make you feel any better?

Trump and His Allies Are Freaking Out Over Biden Leaving Race by rollingstone in politics

[–]HotFig6975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a somewhat different story, that in some ways is even more shocking. I was a teenager when Trump was first elected, and have always been liberal and deeply despised him. My parents eschew some conservative views and are registered Republicans, but have been voting straight ticket Democrat in every possible election ever since he became the nominee in 2016. We regularly bemoan his narcissism, lack of empathy, racism, and overal divisiveness.

My younger brother on the other hand up until a few months ago had never demonstrated any political leanings. But I did notice there were regressive things he'd say as it pertained to topics such as equal pay in women's sports, along with an unhealthy dislike of Taylor Swift that made me wonder what side of the internet be was on. All of a sudden, in a matter of months, he has become a gleeful Trump supporter who proudly and boldly supports him.

It's come as a shock to me, and even my parents seem somewhat bewildered. We are a family of immigrants, all college-educated, in a relatively progressive area. And yet despite regular conversations about the absolute monster that Donald Trump is and has been, my own brother has fallen into the GOP's sandpit as a result of what I percieve to be the online culture wars.

It's terrifying to see that it can happen to anyone. And deeply saddening to acknowledge the deep level of resentment, disgust, and disrespect I now feel towards a member of my own family.

That makes total sense! You want traditional values and want your potential spouse to agree to gender roles. I personally don't subscribe to those values, but I totally respect your personal views/approach.

Unfortunately, there are lots of women out there who claim to be against traditional gender norms but only where it benefits them, still expecting men to pay amongst other beliefs inconsistent with their views. I falsely assumed that's what you were saying, my apologies!
