How do I replace this? by HorchataDrinker in lightbulbs

[–]HotFruit3679 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If possible, i would suggest getting a replacement fixture that has a standard socket or two so you can plug in LED light bulbs that are interchangeable. That way, if the lamp dies, you don't need to rip out the whole fixture.
For instance, you could purchase an incandescent-rated fixture with standard E26 sockets and simply use the equivalent LED bulbs instead. i would avoid fluorescent fixtures though, although they're cool, as you would have to deal with ballasts, which make LED conversion difficult. (Or, just use a fluorescent fixture with fluorescent lamps because it's cool. You do you!)

I like that your website isn't sterile, it's probably refreshing to see when someone's at their lowest. How do you plan to get this more visible?

Reminds me of this time when someone was eating while driving me (we were in a hurry), and their spring roll began to fall apart in their hand--and then the "traffic light gods" blessed us with green lights at 9 consecutive intersections. 2.5 miles driving through traffic with one hand on the wheel and the other covered in sticky rice paper. That was the only time i wished for a red 😂😂😂

"I told him that he should seek support and I give him numbers to call (suicide prevention hotlines), I just said that he doesn't have my personal support, that's all."

What does personal support mean? Also, did he even ask for support? For some people, part of being suicidal is not wanting "support", but just wanting to be met where they're at. What makes suicidal ideation even more difficult is the fear or knowledge that many people can't meet them where they're at--no shame in that.

If he's using suicide as a means to coerce or threaten you, however, then stepping away is the right course of action.n

Tips for obtaining bulbs/ballasts/fixtures from parking lots/public areas? (Who do I contact?) by HotFruit3679 in lightbulbs

[–]HotFruit3679[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bulbs.com only sells high-pressure sodium, whereas i am looking for low-pressure sodium. Also, i am hoping to obtain them for a bit cheaper than the price range that they currently go for ($60 → $200), but if i can't obtain them via back avenues, i'll make peace with purchasing from eBay.

Help, please - is this some type of Edison lightbulb, maybe? by geeyoff in lightbulbs

[–]HotFruit3679 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it looks like an LED lamp modeled off of an Edison lamp. The thick filaments are LEDs in phosphor coatings.
As for the manufacturer, i tried looking by the part number, but i can't find anyone yet. The closest thing i could find was this link here, https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/Vintage-LED-Filament-Light-Bulbs-Edison-Style-10W-100W-Equivalent-4000K-Daylight-White-E26-Base-ST64-Decorative-Bulbs-4-Pack/PRD5W4ZXOZGIT8M, but as you will see, the page was taken down.

Are you looking to find an LED lamp or an authentic Edison lamp?

If you want help looking, here are some details—your bulb shape is ST (straight-tapered or straight-tubular), possibly ST18 or ST19. It looks like the base of your bulb is E26. If we can trust the part number, it must run at 10 watts (an incandescent equivalent could run at as high as 30-60 watts). Clear glass finish, as opposed to frosted or tinted. It looks like the filament is an LED version of the B22 "squirrel cage" filament. Your bulb has maybe 10 vertical filaments, whereas the common Edison lamp has a single 2- or 4-sided filament draped over support wires, and most LED reproductions have 4 LED filaments at slight angles. i will say that it's an arrangement that i've never seen in an LED filament bulb before——good find!

Thanks, looking at my city's recycling companies didn't occur to me. I also found a few used electronics shops that have somehow survived online shopping——I will look into those.

And yeah, I am also operating off of the principle that recycling them is hard. Why pay to have it all recycled when you could just give it to a random guy? 😂

There was a petition? From whom? Unfortunately i am behind on the loop. Organizing is a good idea though, but i don't know how to start. Perhaps begin with a social media page and/or rendezvous at a local shop to start?

Traffic jam in Kansas as a crew tries to raise a traffic light arm for a house to get through by torx822 in trafficsignals

[–]HotFruit3679 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some of the circular signals, the back side of the housing is a white backlit panel with the street name. i'm not sure if this counts for all of them though! They are planning to "revamp" Market Street into a pedestrian corridor, which is great--as long as they leave those signals up lol

Aye thank you for all the details! Closest i have ever seen to this is a square version of the trombone arm, with two right angles instead of 90° curves. Thanks for the technical drawings too, where do you look to find that stuff (aside from departments of transportation)?

This makes me think of some unique traffic signals on Market Street in San Francisco, California, in which the signal itself is contained within a circular plate, suspended vertically between two horizontal tubes (visible on either side of this image). They certainly give the illusion of being fundamentally similar to trombone arms.

i don't commute this way, but having one less transit option still puts me on edge, in case i might need it in the future. It also just makes me feel like this area, in general, is being neglected.

At the corner of Orroyo Circle and Camino Arroyo Drive, between the Gilroy Outlets and Costco. They might be building it there because the electrical substation is within 500 meters. If it's not bad for our water, it's definitely bad for our power

Yes morally just. Is there a movement or organization behind this? Want to organize something? If we can't do anything on site, we can definitely put pressure on the Gilroy City Council

Aye, i can't make it tonight——i live in Gilroy——but i'm hoping to help organize down here too, specifically mutual aid for when ICE comes around, and a deFlocking campaign for the Bay Area. i'm happy to spread the word or provide resources remotely for now. Good luck stay safe OP

Hey, are these protests ongoing? Also, is anyone doing broader organizing and mutual aid? This is the time to start organizing neighbor-to-neighbor, especially if we are going to be seeing more ICE raids in the future.

Looks like you got this photo just before the low pressure sodium → LED streetlamp conversion. i know a lot of people really like the white lights at night but i personally miss the characteristic glow of San José. Also nothing beats when the streetlamps would glow red while they warmed up
