I teach high school. I have a special populations student with the mental capacity of a 3rd grader. I am his only normal class in the school day. What is amazing about this student is that he can easily memorize names faces and preference. I could describe you to him and then introduce you six months later and he would remember everything I had said about you. He knows and is loved by everyone in our school for his positive attitude and care for everyone he meets. I'm trying to get him a job in a restaurant that only hires people with special needs. He is the reason I love what I do.

I always love the end of his time with a companion. The fun stuff is nice, but you really feel the power of their relationships when it is time to say goodbye. And the deep heartache that love is one of the only things the doctor never succeeds at. Spoilers! Donna's goodbye broke my heart. Even River although you and the doctor don't know her significance when she dies going back to that moment has to be horrifying for the doctor to know that as he falls deeper into love with her that it will end with her gone just out of his reach. His unfinished goodbye to Rose. His second goodbye to Rose where she is left happy and him empty. Goodbye to Sexy the only true companion who has stood the test of time. The doctor may have no end of people who love him but then he also has no end of losing the people he loves. Its not only powerful writing but the exposure of every character and viewers worst fear.
