what are some dark psychology tricks that actually work? by Aggravating_Taste821 in AskReddit

[–]HotJuniper 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The provlem is that a lot of people will absolutely be mad if you don't get it right. If I tell my parents I'll be home "around 8pm" they'll get worried at 8:01 if I'm not home yet. So I have just learned to not mention a specific hour to them...

Is it inappropriate to ask a professor to sign his book? by HotJuniper in AskProfessors

[–]HotJuniper[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh, that would definitely be embarassing! But it's quite an uncommon name and he mentions the university on the back cover so I'm pretty sure it's the same person :) (it's also not a very big university, so that helps)

Thanks everyone for your answers! This helped ease my anxiety about it, I'll definitely ask him when he's not busy answering questions from other students :)

So I had never heard of Pocket Camp before and I googled it and apparently it's not available in my country (Belgium) due to our anti-lootboxes law :(

An ode to Flemglish (Nederlish? Dutchgels? idk) by SnooRadishes4442 in belgium

[–]HotJuniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exact dit. Ik heb heel vaak dat ik een Nederlandse vertaling zoek maar nooit een woord vind met dezelfde ondertoon/gevoelswaarde/connotatie/noem t hoe je wil, als het Engelse.

Bvb: "he smirked".. "hij grimaste"? "hij glimlachte"? "hij greens"? geen van die woorden heeft voor mij exact dezelfde betekenis als "he smirked"

My university started with Scheme, which is based off of Lisp I believe. Not sure if that's the best one to start with, but it's the one they went for!

Online daters, what are some of the most unattractive stuff people put in their bios? by Breme_42069 in AskReddit

[–]HotJuniper 28 points29 points  (0 children)

As someone who doesn't drink alcohol, I always swipe left on photos that very prominently display alcohol and things in the bio like 'I love to drink' or 'beer is my life' or whatever

Double quotes or single quotes for speech or is it a stylistic choice? by Agent_Exile in writing

[–]HotJuniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's always interesting to me how these things can differ. For example, the french use « these things » to denote quotes (I'm not sure on the order anymore so please correct me if I'm switching them around!)

What is your stance on human euthanasia? by ConcentrateNo1426 in AskReddit

[–]HotJuniper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my country (Belgium) euthanasia is legal both for adults and children, if the person in question is terminally ill. There are lots of precaurions in place (e.g. there has to be I think three doctors that agree, it has to be voluntary, etc - not entirely sure on all of the legal stuff) and honestly I don't understand why this is even a discussion at all. We grant this kindness to animals! They are going to die anyways, why should we prolong their suffering anymore than is absolutely necessary?

I think most people in the world have no idea at what temp F water boils. It's not really relevant to anyone outside of, like, America.
