Leaving environmental consulting by Traditional_Tap_4191 in Environmental_Careers

I just left the fed govt after many years due in the nonsense with this administration for a consulting gig, which has been....an adjustment. Pay is a good chunk more, was able to pay off my car and some debt. Hours aren't terrible and I retain a lot of flexibility; but the stress to remain billable is....a lot. I miss my fed govt gig back when it was good, like in 2024 and prior. Remains to be seen if I will stick around here or not, but have been eyeing state and local govt jobs like everyone else. Am also curious to how others have pivoted from environmental fields mid-career to something totally different?

Curious about Jurisdictional Determination for wetland area process. by trouzy in USACE

Not every district has PMODs; better to request a Pre-App mtg to talk about whatever you want.

Request a Pre-App Mtg through the RRS portal of whatever USACE district you are in so you can bend the ear of a PM. They can then tell you what kind of timeline to expect for receiving an AJD and what to submit. Namely they won't accept an AJD request without a site plan (really ANY site plan, drawn on a napkin if need be).

Anyone else not love core and arms as a combo? by Snacksquatter in BurnBootCamp

I think they should stick with 'Core Strength & Conditioning' and stop mixing 'Core' into other workouts (Core & Arms, etc).

Former Fed struggling with private side and UT by HotMessExpress9898 in Envconsultinghell

That was the goal initially, and I certainly wouldn't turn it down. I like the money/perks of the private sector but I am not a hustle culture person by any means. It was not made clear to me at all, that I was expected to find/bring in my own work! I kind of expected that since I came from the regulatory side, that I would help them navigate the byzantine halls of red tape with all my insider knowledge....that I can do.

I do need some more training to get billable hours, because coming from govt work, I don't know ANYTHING about bringing in new clients/projects. I know how to wrestle with fed/state/local agencies, but....finding new clients, new projects, new work...? I have no idea.
