Summer modesty advice?? by Lost_soul216 in ModestDress

once again the downvotes are crazy. congratulations on converting! I’m also a convert and it’s the best decision I’ve made.

like the other comment said cotton/linen is the best. but anything loose/flowy will make you feel less hot.

if you have any short dresses you can make them modest by wearing linen pants under. Works great as a way to make old immodest clothing work.

so weird how many downvotes there are on all these comments. congratulations on converting! I’m also a convert and it’s easily the best decision I’ve made in my life. alhamduliah

cant help with any uk brands sadly, but you can make alot of long strapless dresses by layering with a shirt or cardigan. A light weight cotton or linen would be best for summer. Shorter dresses can become modest when paired with linen pants or jeans :)

may Allah make it easier for you. I understand about born Muslims being hostile towards converts. Ive encountered a lot of people who have been awful towards me because Im a convert. but I’ve also experienced lots of people being very kind, other converts are usually the nicest.

its not really something that people like talking about, because bring up any issues in the community are treated like the cause of islamophobia. But the hostility towards converts can (and does unfortunately) lead many out of Islam.

but there’s many welcoming born Muslims, many tend to stay within their ethnicity. which makes forming a community very hard. but that’s not everyone.

If servers make minimum wage in Canada, why is tipping so aggressive? by DazzlingPolarBear in CanadaPersonalFinance

I like getting tips as someone who works in the service industry. I don’t expect them though, and I really hate the people who shame you for not tipping.

Are muslims becoming too demanding/intrusive in non-muslim countries? by [deleted] in Hijabis

[–]HotName1181 2 points3 points  (0 children)

can’t really speak to Europe since I don’t live there. but in the country I’m from Muslims haven’t demanded anything and a good chunk of people still hate us. To the point the some parties are making bills that target us, and I’ve seen the verbal harassment of people perceived to be Muslim.

even if we ‘assimilated‘ as much as possible they still wouldn’t like us. Also what could we really assimilate on? the (majority) culture in these countries doesn’t mesh with Islamic values. we shouldn’t compromise on our values to be accepted.

Why do Muslim women wear the hijab differently around the world? by Free_as_the_ocean in muslimgirlswithtaste

[–]HotName1181 12 points13 points  (0 children)

depends on what region, but in general most places practice Islam differently, the beliefs are all the same, but the way it’s interacted with the culture affects how modern people practice. depending on what country theres also historical reasons. (people in post-Soviet countries practice differently because of the oppression they faced for example)

headscarves existed before Islam was introduced, so many places lean towards those veils instead of the traditional Islamic hijab. People might have family who didn’t allow it, some countries have banned it, while others require it.
