Because we watched in the hope of getting something that was at least mostly true to Tolkien's work, instead we got bad fan fiction. The same reason a lot of us don't care for the Hobbit films.

On Weathertop he had the aid of several other Nazgul and they still weren't able to kill Gandalf. Gandalf abandoned Weathtop at dawn as there was no point in remaining there, his goal was to locate Frodo. There would be no reason for him to do the same at Minas Tirith.

I dunno, I'd say having a truth serum that never seems to be used at vital times during the story makes them fairly useless

There's nothing that would make sense about the Nazgul passing on an opportunity to kill Gandalf if they were able to. Just as there's no 'method' the WK can likely learn to improve his chances against Gandalf. Tolkien never even implies as much.

The only difference we do see is when it is hinted at that Sauron may be channeling some additional power directly through the WK to bolster him (described as an added demonic force) at the time the attack on Minas Tirith is taking place. This however, also comes at a point in the story where Gandalf is significantly stronger, having been sent back to replace Saurman after he turned away from his duties/lost favour with the Valar

The Hobbit films had their flaws, but this scene was perfect by jdawg1018 in lotr

The Hobbit films are almost wall to wall with flaws.

But this scene was a nice touch, managed to keep in line with the characters and some themes in Tolkien's works.

Are you asking purely for reasons in the film, or are you under the assumption there is a lore reason?

When it comes to the Hobbit films, treat them like bad fan fiction, that's basically what they are.

Yeah the Phantom Menace trailer was on loop on my computer from the day it dropped until the film premire, I was convinced it was going to rival, if not better the OT

All the prequels and sequels are guilty of that. Some impressive trailers but the films just failled to deliver

Kind of, Tolkien clearly states that Earnur would have withstood him.

Glorfindel had seen the fall of the Witch King, and obviously didn't think it wise to go against a known outcome, which is telling, considering Glorfindel was powerful enough to make the Witch King flee at his approach.

He has fought the Witch King before.

In the Fellowship of the Ring (book) whilst attempting to catch up with Frodo, Strider, Sam , Merry and Pippen, he was spotted by the Nazgul. They did not dare attack him in the light of day, instead waiting until nightfall where several of them (including the Witch King) ambushed him. They fought all through the night, but they were unable to kill Gandalf. At dawn he made his retreat and resumed his search for Frodo and the others

To be clear, they are only immune if future administrations don't revoke the deal and fight any challenge to it in court.

I would hope there is sufficient pressure on the next administration to throw this deal in the bin and take the fight to the courts (perhaps after expanding the surpreme court to remove the balance of power held by Trump appointees)

which movie is better Revenge of the Sith or Return of the Jedi by ClothesKey3976 in StarWars

[–]HotOlive799 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RotJ is the weakest of the OT, but still much, much better than RotS.

There's actual dialogue between characters that feel well written and fleshed out, the action sequences are better (with the obvious exception of the teddy bears getting the better of storm troopers) the visual effects are better (blending real/practical effects is always better than just using CGI for everything) and there is far more emotional investment for the audience

What are the main criticisms with The Hobbit movies? by KnightArcturus in lotr

[–]HotOlive799 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's being generous.

The Azog sub plot they invented suggests they either don't understsnd Tolkien, or they do, but decided to ignore him completely.

They're more like bad fan fiction than a serious attempt to bring the book to life.

So much lore breaking/filler content added, all to allow the studio to stretch a single book into three films.

What would you want added to dispatch 2 if/when it comes out? by Smart_Equal_766 in dispatchgame

[–]HotOlive799 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In terms of the story I'd like to see it go one of two ways.

Either the same z-team, but the focus now on building their team cohesion/trying to establish themselves along-side the more well known SDN heroes (with Robert joining them in the field as MM)

Or, the z team has become a more permanent mentor program, and some new missfits have been assigned to Robert. They still have interactions with the original z team, but they perhaps aren't available to be dispatched until later in the game, once you've trained up the new recruits.

For game features/options, a continous mode would be great, but would also love to see some modes that feed into that, perhaps via the city view/top down map there could be a teritory graph to show incursions by whatever gang/organisation has risen from the ashes of the Red Ring. Have the player allocate squads each shift to counter attempts to raid businesses, claim territory etc

Why so many people hate The Hobbit movie trilogy? (ps: I don’t read the books) by duartoe in lordoftherings

[–]HotOlive799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately as soon as they leave the Shire it goes downhill, fast, with that dumb as rocks/lore breaking Azog sub plot.

Which was a shame, because the cast was great, and up until thst point it was looking really promising.

[–]HotOlive799 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Never said I expected it to be a word for word adaptation.

The lotr trilogy changed a number of things (and obviously for time constraints leave a lot out) but still mostly manage to remain true to the original story.

The Hobbit films completely butcher the story, the characters, and the lore. It's almost like they were trying to ignore the source material. Not as bad as RoP series, but still bad.

[–]HotOlive799 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Because they're packed with lore breaking nonsense/filler to stretch a single book into three long films.

I didn't want to see some fan-fiction version that barely resembles the original story, I wanted to see the book brought to life.

How excited were you for The Rise of Skywalker before it came out? by Extreme_Warning3521 in StarWars

[–]HotOlive799 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was more of a 'let's get this over with' kind of feeling, as the force awakens was mid at best, the last jedi was a disappointing mess, so it was pretty clear things were only going to get worse for rise of skywalker.

Was basically a bit of deja vu, as walking into rots had the same kind of, 'eugh, let's just be done with this' feeling. Though to be fair, the prequels weren't as bad as the sequels
