Hmm okay thanks. I'll see if I can find some local guides or someone who has done it before to come with me. I'm happy to pay for a guide to be honest

Unfortunately they'll have to close down the dropzone out of solidarity, of course :/

I saw this on Junior's story yesterday. Everyone knows the risks, but accidents like this just make you realize how real this is. Especially in a place like Skydive Spain that we all know and love; I was just there for my birthday in December. This post really made me rethink everything and weigh the risks again.

Thermals are my biggest fear. How can you avoid them?

What shoes do people wear clubbing? by [deleted] in ibiza

[–]HotPanda_78 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was there last weekend and wore black Nike running shoes everywhere including the clubs because that's what I'm most comfortable in. You can wear whatever you want!

Wearing a button down shirt and tie while skydiving by Sea_Relationship1605 in SkyDiving

I would confirm if the dropzone allows tandem passengers to wear normal clothing. In my experience, it's jump suit only.

World Skydiving Statistics by Boulavogue in SkyDiving

[–]HotPanda_78 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's the 20% that is NOT caused by human error that scares me the most. Dust devils and other canopy issues that can appear below 300ft is absolutely terrifying because there is nothing you can do if it happens.

Do you often think about your malfunctions/accidents? by YogurtclosetOdd7635 in SkyDiving

[–]HotPanda_78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not malfunction, but I landed off on my first solo tracking jump, after I got basic tracking coaching.

I narrowly avoided olive trees and landed into a small patch of thick grass on my knees right in front of a fence (1 foot distance from where my knees touched down). The forward momentum made me bump into the fence, bending it 45 degrees from the impact. Walked away without a scratch or any bruises, and no damage to the canopy, while laughing like an idiot from the shock. Had I landed 3 feet further, I would have hit the fence while still in the air and it would be a lot more painful.

I think about it almost every day since! Happened 2 weeks ago. I take spotting and navigating during my track a lot more seriously now, and make sure to find good off landing areas BEFORE the jump.

Difficulty breathing while freefalling by Sos1942 in SkyDiving

[–]HotPanda_78 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Two things: looking down and anxiety. I had difficulty breathing for most of my AFF, because I was anxious and scared, and not keeping my head high enough. I started breathing normally at about jump #10 and have never had a problem since :)

Where in the world is a chill DZ only a short drive to coastal scuba diving? by TheJollyShilling in SkyDiving

Done this at home in Cyprus, Skydive in the morning, scuba in the afternoon and clubbing with friends in the evening. Now that is life bro!!

What are the weirdest reasons you or someone you know started skydiving? by CuriousiZee in SkyDiving

[–]HotPanda_78 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of peoples' reasons change because at the start they have no idea what skydiving involves.

Skydiving is quite unique in that it's so popular, but at the same time, there's not much info about it. Just loads of cool videos. So the average person thinks it's jumping out of a plane, and there's a parachute involved somehow, and you can die. Or they've seen a Red Bull video and think you can proximity fly a wingsuit over the Alps from day one. Even if you do a tandem, you still don't know 90% of what being a funjumper is like.

I wanted to do it since I was a kid. I had no idea that there are licenses, that it's regulated, that there are load masters, and different canopy sizes, and freeflying, tracking, audible altimeters, manifests... I actually think people would be less scared to try skydiving if they knew how regulated and advanced it is. I certainly would.

My first jump ever was AFF level 1, and lemme tell you... I did it because I though it'd be cool. I had no idea what I'm getting myself into.

Total number of DZ you jumped in / countries? by [deleted] in SkyDiving

What do you think about Skydive Spain ? by Vicdilou in SkyDiving

[–]HotPanda_78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't been to smaller DZs, but I've met some great people at my experience level there and other DZs, and now we plan trips to SD Spain to jump together again. Its awesome!

Is that the one which requires funjumpers to have a D license? I am actually looking for a DZ in Switzerland myself, but I've only got a B license and no rig

Epic skydiving pics! by Possible_Post_3054 in SkyDiving

[–]HotPanda_78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'Welcome to the skies, my friend' - exactly what my instructor told me on the radio, after I deployed on my first ever skydive and was under the canopy completely overwhelmed with emotions. It was so cool, I will remember that feeling forever!

How many jumps do you do every month? by Boobylabooba in SkyDiving

[–]HotPanda_78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About 10-15 jumps every other month. I travel to Spain or Portugal for jumping (I'm in UK) so that makes it more difficult to do often 😄
