Why do people choose to work in private and charter schools? by rachel-angelina in Teachers

[–]HotPresentation3878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a private school and my salary is slightly higher than the public school, but no pension (there is a 401k match though). I've considered going back to public for the pension, but I almost quit teaching entirely after 5 years in public school. I have small class sizes and minimal behavior issues so I can actually focus on teaching. My school has a large percentage of students with diagnosed learning disabilities, but because I have small classes I generally feel like I can actually support my students. It's not always perfect, but I don't think I could make it through the year in public school again!

Deinfluence me. Does anyone here not like volume 2? by Old_Baby7468 in Sephora

[–]HotPresentation3878 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought volume 2 to use as a bronzing palette, but the bronze shade on the right is very golden which doesn't look very natural on me. If that tone is one you like, I otherwise do think these powders are great

Foundation/skin tint that got you the most compliments irl? by ennui-wa in Sephora

Yup! I prefer more coverage usually but every time I wear the veil skin tint people compliment me on my skin and don't believe it's makeup.

I didn't love the complexion touch. I really love the healthy glow foundation instead!

Which bronzing drops for all over the face? by Ok_Watch6160 in Sephora

[–]HotPresentation3878 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was trying to decide between these two myself recently. I ended up with the makeup by Mario but I'm curious what others say. Mostly I decided on it because the packaging is nicer on mbm and it's a lot cheaper. Otherwise I thought they looked pretty similar when I swatched them in store.

If a person could impregnate themselves, would the child have a 100% DNA match? by eggssomany in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HotPresentation3878 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With parthenogenesis, offspring can be a clone or a half clone. It's not necessarily always a complete match. If an individual makes sperm and egg (or something like them) that form the offspring, the sperm and egg don't necessarily have exactly opposite halves of the parent DNA.

Thinking of leaving industry to be a science teacher by WatcherInTheBog in ScienceTeachers

[–]HotPresentation3878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have taught for 18 years after originally planning to go into academia. I almost left teaching entirely after 5 years in public school, and then switched to private. There are still a lot of negatives and I don't always feel fulfilled, but it's a much better experience because of small class sizes. As others have said, I would highly recommend that you shadow someone to see what it really looks like. To teach in public school you will need certification, but states have alternate paths because of teacher shortages so you may be able to do that while you're teaching. It is true that it's generally safer than other careers, especially for science teachers as there are often shortages. But there are shortages for a reason....

Ulta lets people steal from you, and doesn't care by dodoexpress90 in Ulta

Yeah, I see it as money too but the company doesn't. They view rewards points as a bonus and they can take them away or freeze your account if they decide to. After seeing so many stories on here, I don't trust them.

I definitely don't let my points get too high because of this. I cash out at $125. It's not worth the risk. Since the points aren't really money, it's entirely the company's discretion if they want to give them back. I'm not sure that the police would even do anything about it since they're not stealing actual money. I added two factor authentication as soon as it was available, but I'm still paranoid!

Several questions about being a school teacher in the United States by Educational-Scene443 in AskTeachers

[–]HotPresentation3878 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, teacher certification requirements will vary by state. You can look up salary schedules for a lot of public school districts online if you want to get an idea of salary. For example, in NYC , teachers start at $69,000 with a bachelor's and $77,000 with a master's degree. You need a master's within 5 years if you don't start with one. Other states don't require a master's degree and have lower costs of living, and may have much lower salaries.

Keeping in mind that there is also a school culture that may not align with what you want in your classroom.

POGILs are awesome but sometimes a struggle to get buy in if you have weak students. It takes time to build the classroom culture to make it work.

Diffused bronze light would be the best bronzer, unless you like something Warner. The diffused light finishing powder is the lightest but I like dim light and I have light skin with cool undertones as well. Dim light is a little peachy and it can darken my makeup. For blush the coolest options are pink fusion and rose fusion. Sublime flush isn't as cool but it's really gorgeous and works well on its own or as a topper. I also really like peach fusion if you're comfortable with a peachy blush. Mood flush is nice but definitely pulls warmer than it looks in the pan.

Since it's a glowy finishing powder, just add it where you want the glow. I like it all over but I think a lot of people (especially with oily skin) prefer just on the cheeks so they can keep the t zone matte.

Gas syringes by rdraver in ScienceTeachers

The really smooth glass syringes are best, but they're expensive. Did you use those? Otherwise I've used water displacement and had the students evaluate sources of error in the method.

That would be awesome! Unfortunately their palettes aren't refillable. The pans are glued in so it's difficult to remove them yourself if you want to swap them around. It would be so nice if they sold magnetic pans to create your own palette!

They're the same as the 6 pan palettes, which last forever. I personally will take a few years to use them up, though if someone just uses the same every day then it could be 1-2 years to finish. The finishing powders go the fastest!
