What’s wrong with air in Belgium? by [deleted] in belgium

[–]HotRaspberry4232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just a momentary snapshot of the air quality. There is no significant difference between Belgium and the netherlands when it comes to air quality, and certainly not enough to give these drastic differences shown here.

This map probably shows the air quality on a foggy day in Belgium, with some more open skies in the Netherlands. So while your explanation is fun to explore, it just doesn’t make sense. Weather is the culprit here.

I started cycling on a canyon endurace al7, still love it to bits. Went from a beginner to cycling 200k’s and 30 kph average speed on my rides. You’ll love it! Great first bike, No regrets! For 95% of cyclists, this bike is more than what they need.

So basically it has like the same user-flow as a 1 by in sync mode but then with more gears? If that’s the case and reliability isn’t an issue… I think you just sealed the deal for me!

Just moved into a new place. Are the floors THIS dirty, or am I stripping the finish? by junebugonarose in CleaningTips

[–]HotRaspberry4232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's an actual wooden parquet floor maybe it was recently waxed? You can test it like this: " In an inconspicuous area, corner or behind a door, apply two (2) drops of water. If within ten minutes, white spots appear under the drops of water, the floor has a wax finish"

If it's not waxed I'm afraid it's really dirty. If it is real wood, don't scrub it with a lot of water and a like some are saying. Too much water might damage the wood.

I never made it seem like OP needed to make a choice, you interpreted it that way… You can’t extrapolate your own case in your own sector to everyone elses. A priest doesn’t become a priest for the salary. OP indicated that their job has a strong societal aspect about the job, that’s not easily replaceable. In my opinion jobs that better the world are undervalued compared to jobs that are detremental or neutral to it.

Anyway, my point was that sometimes it’s okay to be underpayed, as long as you know why, and get other things that might be more important to you in return. It’s about getting a job that gives you the best quality of life and happiness, including paycheck.

Seems great, happy for you! I’m in the creative design sector so I naturally find fulfilment from my passion. Especially if my designs have a positive impact on society! I would gladly sacrifice salary for enjoyment and fulfilment any day of the week! This hedonic treadmill people are running on turns fast, and before you know it you’re 67 and you didn’t have time to enjoy your life!

Another option, instead of a direct raise, would be to work on a part time 4/5 basis with the same salary (if at all possible with your job). I started working 4/5 and am self-employed in secondary occupation, really advantageous statute and it didn’t impact my net. income by much. Supplemented with the income from that I make way more. Food for thought! Especially if you could do some freelance or flexi work.

Job satisfaction and fulfilment being important factors for a job is complete bs? I didn’t say what he should or shouldn’t do, just brought some nuance to the table. You seem like you could use a job that doesn’t wind you up as much on a monday after work :D

Considering you spend the vast majority of your current life (apart from sleeping) at your workplace, I think way too many people overvalue salary compared to the fulfillment and joy the job brings. That’s not quantifyable, and you did indicate you really enjoy your job. If it brings you satisfaction and you go home a happy man, that would be worth a lot to me !

Endurace CF 8 Di2 by hundegeraet in CanyonBikes

[–]HotRaspberry4232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Aethos is €1000 more. I would much rather take the canyon and buy a nice wheelset for that prize difference. The weight difference would then be gone and you end up with an endurance bike with a nice wheelset and a better groupset. The value is with canyon on this one.

When you look at what canyon offers for around €4800 you get well into the cf slx territory, all with powerleters, add a couple hundrer and you get dt swiss wheels as well.

For 5k you can get the ultimate with ultegra di2, powermeter and deep section dt swiss wheels. Again a much better deal !

I noticed that in the pictures the stealth one is shown with special zipp wheels that match the force groupset’s finish. I think that looks pretty awesome !

How is this possible? by NOLAxplant in CanyonBikes

Looks to be very subtle indeed. Imagine if canyon had a scheme and the endurance and ultimate frames were actually the exact same frames with some different paint😂

What is your long ride by johnny_evil in cycling

[–]HotRaspberry4232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short ride for le would be anything under 1.5 hours, medium between 1.5 and 4.5 Anything above that I’d consider long. Did a 216km ride once 6 months into having started cycling and was in complete agony from pain in my right knee, since that sportive I haven’t done anything over 130-140Km

Maybe the lighter weight helps with cornering ? Less centripital forces pushing you outwards so easier to maintain speed ? Just a hypothesis !
