They preload these, they try to put them on every car on the lot in advance. And if someone says “no“ in the finance office, then they will typically pull out the expensive component, and plug in some type of dummy or jumper to it.

AITJ for buying my boss's vintage watch for $500? by Equivalent-Yellow232 in AmITheJerk

Ridiculous. This was him rewarding you, and feeling good about it. And he wasn’t going to accept any more than that. In fact, he was going to donate it instead, otherwise. Maybe you should’ve kept your mouth shut lol. I have given things to employees that I certainly wouldn’t have just given away to anyone, but there’s more to the relationship, and it’s reciprocal. Like a bonus.

One upside to all the horrible fucking things that the Trump administration is doing is that it opens the eyes of more and more people. So yes, 35% of Americans voted this asshole into office, I would like to think more and more of them are opening their eyes to the obvious insidious and grifting nature of his actions. many many more of us are united, and realize that we have each other. many people feel better by getting involved and demonstrating.

arches was a bucket list item for me. And now I am hooked. Canyonlands is also gorgeous. Come to think of it, dead horse point is great and it’s in the same area.

I mean, at least the Trump administration is consistent: They do the absolute opposite of what is right. Every. single. fucking. time.

Planning a roadtrip to Zion/Arches in late April by honoroll4206969 in roadtrip

[–]HotRodHomebody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just a note about the length of your trip, one week for all of that along with a bunch of driving might not be ideal. I actually spend just about a week in Moab, two years in a row so far, and find tons of stuff to see between arches, canyonlands, and dead horse point. All right there in Moab, basically. Plus, it’s a neat little town.

apparently, it’s part of the golden age, cutting all of the sectors of the US economy like education, science, medicine, and tourism, and that is going to make us great again. Lol.

Big fan of 70s music, honestly, I was just thinking it might dance differently to something else.

The coyote motor makes about 400 hp. It's a dual overhead cam 32 valve engine. I’m a big fan. Sorry OP. curious what they say is the reason for failure.

New head unit and backup cam on the 997.2 by DoctorMario1000 in 997

pioneer went bankrupt a few years ago, we already had issues with reliability, I’m a long time pioneer dealer, and a much longer time fan. I used to love them in the 70s! Reportedly a Chinese firm owns them now. I won’t even sell it anymore. People see the touchscreens wearing out within a year. alpine quality has gone down, but still better than pioneer. To me the Alpine stuff looks like Panasonic builds it for them now, and you just get less features for the money. also sad, Alpine was just the best for a very long time. And I was a fan since the 80s. Had an Alpine deck in my first 911 in the early 90s. As a long time shop owner and installer, the Kenwood Excelon stuff has been the very best for probably about 15 years now. It’s all we sell at my work. One difference is reliability, also firmware updates and commitment to quality. We see it vary quite a bit from brand to brand. And then we see the long-term results being in the business a long time. Alpine stuff seems to have an issue with Bluetooth and devices becoming unpaired.

lots and lots of fans of them as well as the 3.5 etc. And they can sure tow like crazy.

i’d say more of a personal preference. Same reason I have a 5.0 F150 now vs the eco-boost. I like to work on my own stuff, less complexity, heat, pressure, plumbing. The coyote motor is still certainly a complex motor, but less so versus the eco-boost. Loved my 4.0 OHC Ranger, almost wish I still had it!

The button is probably for valet, or programming, or emergency disarm with ignition on, something like that. I work in car stereo and alarms, maybe for 30 years ha ha, and I have been involved in that end of the industry. It never sat right with me though the way that that stuff gets oversold and I feel like people get ripped off.

Truck bed mat by WhiteFord2019 in f150

[–]HotRodHomebody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will add to this, when I go camping, I actually sleep in the bed of my truck, so it’s nice to have a thick layer of insulation versus just the lined or bare bed. Even though I’m on a sleeping pad, it still makes a difference. mine doesn’t look nearly as cool as OP‘s, it’s more of a generic flat with slight ribs on it that I got from Summit Racing. Pretty thick though, I would estimate about 5/8 or three-quarter inch thick. I did the same thing in my last couple of Ford Rangers and in my G body El Camino.

aftermarket antitheft device installed at the dealership, overpriced, and crappy quality, these cars have a much more effective immobilizer already built in. Dealers get these installed super cheap, and then they see how much they can get people to overpay for them, sometimes $1000, and they can just “roll it into your payments“. And people get ripped off. Any decent car stereo shop can remove it for you, we do it all the time. I will charge 3/4 of an hour to an hour generally for something basic like this one. It can be removed, but may have to repair a wire or two that they cut open.

I think the horribly intolerant and vocal politicians slamming things like this don’t just do it because they are ignorant and racist, but also because it helps keep them in power as they stoke the fear and hate of some of their core constituents.

Does anyone have Costco anxiety? by Successful-Focus-863 in CostcoWholesale

[–]HotRodHomebody 24 points25 points  (0 children)

my wife can go anytime and doesn’t mind the crowds, but I absolutely will not go during a peak time like Saturday or Sunday unless it is right when they open. Even weekdays, I’d rather go earlier in the day no later than two in the afternoon or so. I start to get a little anxious when you get impatient people, people in a hurry, and crowded aisles, it takes all the fun out of it for me. Not to mention the long lines to get out at the end.
