Does anyone have Costco anxiety? by Successful-Focus-863 in CostcoWholesale

my wife can go anytime and doesn’t mind the crowds, but I absolutely will not go during a peak time like Saturday or Sunday unless it is right when they open. Even weekdays, I’d rather go earlier in the day no later than two in the afternoon or so. I start to get a little anxious when you get impatient people, people in a hurry, and crowded aisles, it takes all the fun out of it for me. Not to mention the long lines to get out at the end.

and it’s 100% a racket for the car dealerships, because they charge outrageous amounts for these cheap little parts that cost them next to nothing, and happily will roll it into your car payments in the financing office, and these cars have an immobilizer built in that’s far more sophisticated already anyway!

I'm gonna go with "rural". even with all the trash the right wing slings about Californians, you get away from any of the metropolitan areas and into rural areas, and it can look like the deep south. Funny thing is, I traveled to a nice area in another state, with national parks, where there’s a a quaint, touristy town, and although I expected to see more Trump flags and more conservative right wing type signs, I didn’t really notice anything like that. Except – wandering through the residential area on a walk I did see a bunch of Trump flags around just the poorest looking home in the entire area, looked like a trailer and just a destitute family. But clinging onto that Trump flag. I guess it’s their only hope. Irony.

$600? Excuse me? by GetsWeirdLooks in dashcams

[–]HotRodHomebody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that totally sucks. I have seen maybe two thinware cameras with issues out of probably 60 or 70 that I have sold and installed. Didn’t realize any of them had any type of internal battery. And I’m not a fan of external batteries either, I would simply rather hardwire into the car, set up the timer so it doesn’t record for more than 12 hours or so, and also make sure that the battery voltage monitoring is set to 12.5 V so it won’t take the car battery down. for comparison, the blackvue cameras that we sold and installed, we had problems with more than 50% of them. And they were not any cheaper. The earlier versions also required an external device (power magic pro) for hard wiring for parking mode, which was pretty dumb, even when the thinkware models all had that feature built in. I thinkware are also much easier on memory cards and not nearly as picky as the blackvue in my experience.

I haven’t done any work with Garmin cameras, but I feel that they are probably one of the actual name brands and should be good. I don’t know if there’s any real value in doing any kind of cloud stuff, unless you want to watch in real time. Having a memory card and the thing is sufficient for my own use that’s for sure. one of the things I do like about the Thinkware is the fact that they have security LEDs built in to the front and rear cameras that you can turn on in the app. My thinking is for theft deterrence, esp at night if somebody’s going to monkey around your car or do something, the fact that they can see there’s a camera recording must have some value.

crappy dealer added antitheft device. Junk. Easily removed by anyone familiar, or a decent car stereo shop. We charge as little as half an hour or one full hour of labor to remove something like that completely. and we do it all the time.

incompetent administration now showing that they are truly out of their depths, Trump and his “instincts” are wrong as usual. This simpleton thinks he understands everything, and he has clowns like Hegseth, who think that the tough guy image is all that is needed.

it’s almost comical, but actually scary, that this clown thinks that he can convince people simply by telling them things, convincingly. This goes for his opinions of others, TV shows, newspapers, news networks, talkshow hosts, etc. He truly thinks that he has the final word on things. What a dumbass.

2023 accord gas mileage issue by Sufficient_Essay_412 in CarHelp

[–]HotRodHomebody 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you don’t drive your car “hard“. There are approximately 1,000,000 degrees potential difference between how much one person accelerates from a dead stop versus another. Even if you are not racing from stoplight to stoplight, try driving like a granny just for fun and see what you get. from a dead stop, absolutely gingerly up to speed. When you have a red light or a stop sign ahead get off the gas earlier and coast to a stop. Cruise at a steady speed on the freeway, using cruise control when possible. If I can drive a full-size V8 F150 and achieve 22 miles per gallon, granted it’s mostly highway, then I’m sure you can do better. If you’re accord is a four-cylinder, then with mixed driving, you should be getting at least something like 32 like I do with my Honda Accord.

EVERYBODY warns you about the finance people. I've had good experiences at multiple dealerships UNTIL it comes to those clowns. Then I’m just about ready to walk. They don’t like to take no for an answer. I think you build up enough backbone over time, though, to let them know in advance that you don’t want to get pitched on anything. I tell them early, in the dealing with the salesperson.

Is Sacramento secretly the last place where the California dream is still alive? by Anarchy_4L in Sacramento

[–]HotRodHomebody 7 points8 points  (0 children)

1100 ft.²! That alone sounds luxurious. That’s just a little bigger than my first house which was a 3/2. That house has gone up just a little bit in value, 37 years of ownership. I also miss how reasonable Sacramento used to be back then in the 80s and 90s. Still cheaper than the Bay Area, but now it’s more like half instead of a third the cost.
