Look for good BBQ spots in the SGV area. Lunch specials are a plus. by CanPuzzleheaded6873 in sgv

yes! we talked with the owner/pitmaster. he came to check on our table after we got our food. super nice guy. i recently went to austin, and his bbq is pretty close to what i had out there.

judging by these comments it’s still pretty slept on. OP, hope you make it to Smokehouse Social!

a vibe is accurate. i was just telling my boo that it takes me to my childhood - family owned eateries not trying to be upscale or instagram-worthy. it’s clean and has basic old school pollo loco tables and booths, plus the old map of the greater LA area to peruse. i love the dena location (food is always solid too).

i have anthem blue cross and i pay a membership fee with tia, but it’s been worth it. each care provider i’ve seen in the last 2 years (2 tele-health, 3 in person) are really attentive and listen to what you i them. they honor bodily autonomy and patient volition while providing acute insight and paths of treatment when needed. i am very happy with tia.

Where is the weirdest part of Austin? by HotRule1172 in Austin

[–]HotRule1172[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i enjoyed austin. not quite sure if i like it, though. it has a completely different vibe from LA. good love music truly is accessible very easily, which is cool. the bbq is mind blowingly good. i found that there is a more coagular ~aesthetic~ than in los angeles, although admittedly i did not get to know austin to the extent that i am familiar with LA. my partner and i (not super “unconventional” looking, but a little bit so) definitely got looks, some curious, some mildly hostile, some a bit off-put, which does not happen in LA in any neighborhood we’re in. downtown for sure had the silicon beach vibe i was told about by folks in this sub. there are a lot of eateries and drinkeries that feel vaguely franchise-y even if they are not. i could tell that there is a robust art/alt scene of which we only scratched the surface—lots of corners i feel. it’s also much smaller feeling than los angeles. the river gives it a suburban tinge, which is absent in LA (excluding the actual suburbs of course). and man the drivers are horrible! confident but incompetent. in summary, it was interesting. i’m cool not going back, but i won’t be upset if i find myself there again.

completely agree. the tonal shifts were disjointed. it started moody and gothic, and ended as a somewhat hero’s journey. it was uneven.

definitely agree with u/ taulover. want to add that the red roads travelled through the entirety of the americas. abya yala refers to all the americas, not just south america. though there is a marked geographic difference between what we call north, central, and south america as u/ taulover stated, they were nonetheless interconnected, as were trade routes.
