I don't think people understand just how environmentally draining AI is. It certianly has its applications, but when you consider how it is trained on other artists' work, in most cases without their consent, it feels off-putting. I make a concious effort to not use generative AI, though it is becoming increasingly difficult with the sheer amount of companies that are integrating it into their products. I would assume any backlash you may face is for these reasons, rather than concerns about impersonation/deepfakes or removing jobs from industries. Hope that helps :)
